GB, I think something is up with your power mizer program. When I used it to tell powermizer to be disabled on plugged in, my gpu wouldnt clock up, and stayed at the lowest, no matter what i did. I had to restore the ability to clock up using power mizer switch.

depending on your wireless card, i would consider getting the intel drivers for that, too. also, i am not sure, but i would also probably suggest the latest chipset inf drivers from dell (at least if you are using win7). if you are using the nvidia card, i would suggest either some drivers from lv2go, or from winupdate (if you are using win7). other than that, i think that dell's drivers seem to be the only ones, or are fine.

edit -- if you are using intel gpu, you'll have to ask someone else -- as i don't have experience with it, although i would guess that too would benefit from using their direct drivers.

Heres an interesting problem ive had happen twice in the past few days:

my screen literally (well, its usually after i go and do something for a few minutes, then come back and i just notice it) turns off, and it wont turn back on. Like, the wifi, HD, numlock, and power button LEDs are on like normal, but nothing responds. Closing and opening the lid does nothing.

The only way i can get it to turn off is to hold the power button down for like 5-10 seconds, and then manually turn it on. Any ideas why this is happening? It seems like its started since i put in a new DVD-RW drive. It has happened both on and off battery.

Although it could be since ive installed the new x4500 intel drivers (but it didnt happen at first when i had those up). It seems like its a problem with going into sleep/turning the screen off.

Any help is appreciate in advance.

I am ready to order Latitude E6500 with following configuration. How does it look ?

I considered following 4 laptops "Lenovo T500/400, Latitude E6500/E6400" and ultimately decided to buy E6500.

I have bought 3 Dells in last 6 years and pretty happy with them. But I have heard that lately Dell's quality has gone down considerably so started considering Lenovo.

After spending lots of time researching on this forum, I have finally decide to go with Dell Latitude E series for following reasons :
    1) I like Latitude Tech Support and since I have never used Lenovo I am not sure about Lenovo support.
    2) Dell configuration is slightly cheaper ($100).
    3) A minor consideration : Dell E series looks are better than Lenovo T series.

Between E6500 and E6400: E6500 extra 1 lb weight was major concern but finally I gaven in for bigger screen size of E6500 to E6400.

This is my first post on this forum. Please bear with me if I have posted this on the wrong thread.

    Total price : $1,239.00

Btw, I'll be swapping a new SSD and adding another 2GB ram later.

Any comments ? Anything that should be changed in above config ? The laptop will be primarily used for regular personal use (browsing, watching movies) plus heavy Java programming (no or minor gaming).

Will the weight of above system (with 6-cell) at or below 6 lb (without power adapter) ?

Is this price tag $1239 justified ? Also, does anybody have any coupons to bring that $$ down :) ?

    Thanks

Kazaam, I've actually got the same problem whenever my computer is plugged in and I put it into lock mode and close the lid (it refuses to go to sleep for some reason, but it does turn off the screen when I do this). Quite often, as I come back to use it again, the computer comes back to life in every respect aside from the screen. I have the dedicated GPU, so I doubt it's your Intel drivers. I'd be interested in learning how to fix this, also.

Edit: Oddly enough, whenever the computer is NOT plugged in and I put it into sleep (it only goes to sleep when it's unplugged), it comes back to life perfectly fine...
