I just got off the phone with Dell. I have the bottom plate slightly warped (no idea why, I think it was there from the start) and the laptop rocks slightly back and forth when typing. I also mentioned a slight cosmetic flaw on one of the hinges and the one time the heating up of the GPU crashed the video driver (which recovered successfully).

After mentioning the bottom plate and heat issues, the guy at the phone asked if there were any further issues. I said there was a minor warping on the plastic case of the left hinge, but it was only cosmetic, so if they wouldn't replace it it was fine. His answer (and I quote):

"No, this system is quite new and should not have these flaws. I will instruct the technician to take a new pair of plastic hinge covers to replace yours if they are damaged at all."

He also mentioned that the first tech that saw the system (to repair a cosmetic flaw to begin with) noted in their system that the plastic was in bad condition at that time, even though I did not mention it when he was here!

Needless to say I am quickly becoming a big fan of Dell's business support...

just remember that the "latest drivers from DELL site" are not the latest drivers that you should be using in most cases. Drivers direct from the manufacturer are almost always better.

Yes. The latest Storage manager made that very clear.

notice:: two new things added -- firmware and utility for dell controlpoint controlvault. the firmware has something to do with the USH, the utility seems to probably only apply if you have a FIPS reader.

one thing that is weird though is the firmware version... it seems to be installing 1.1.6.0 when the previous USH claimed to be 1.2.x.x

1.1.6.0 is actually the installer version; the F/W version is 1.2.xxx.33.

The other half's E6400 has the privacy screen, but I believe one needs to install the CP software to enable that feature (which I haven't bothered to do).
