Today I came back to office after being away for 2 weeks.
During that my Win domain password had expired.

When I tried to login using preboot auth with fingerprint, it asked me to change the password, I did that.
But then when tried to use the fingerprint for login, it said that TPM is "in protective mode because of repeated login attemtps" or smth like that. It also said that it will take some time and after that it will be available again.

I tried to use the fingerprint reader after 5 hours and got the same message.
I then ran EMBASSY security center and TPM status was displayed "locked".
I then unlocked it using the owner password.

Hope this helps someone in the same situation.
PS! Does anybody know how long it takes, if at all possible, for the TPM to become unlocked by itself.

I'm running the x64 7077 build, but in a virtual machine, where ubuntu 9.04 beta is the host OS. So it's not really applicable, but it's been really stable for me.

i am not certain on this, but fairly sure that the TPM will not unlock itself without user input (like you did).

Intel 5300 Wireless Card issues w/ Latitude E6400.

I am using a Linksys WRTG54 Router and have no problems with it using any other laptop, but this 5300 card is problematic. I go from having 54 Mbps to 12 Mbps to 1Mbps to 5Mbps to 12 to 54... and sometimes it stays at 54 and other times I can't connect. It is driving me crazy!! anyone know fixes? Apparently there's a 'known-issue' w/ WRT54G router but no fixes yet? I have all the updated drivers from Intel's site...

I have not noticed any issues here with WRT54G v1.1 firmware v4.30.5 set for G-only, channel 3, and WPA2. No cordless phones in this house.

When I got my E6400, I opened the bottom for inspection. I think the mini-card on the lower left was the 5300. It had some funky plastic wrap material left on it that seemed out-of-place, so I removed that and firmed up its connections. Can't say that mattered...

weird... are you using windows zero or intel pro-set wireless to connect to the internet? i also don't have any cordless phones in the house. what driver are you using? the latest from dell? or the one from intel? it looks like intel just updated yet another time and the newest is 4/9/2009, i just downloaded and installed it, so far so good but who knows.

Can I delete it? It shows up on the bottom task bar next to the clock with two small computer icons and a red x... it takes a long time to startup when windows boots up and I looked into its configuration but it doesn't seem like it's assigned to do anything important, or at least from what I can tell... It almost seems like its redundant to the Dell 'ControlPoint.' Please let me know what you think.

Also in my system tray, there is a "local area connection" and "local area connection 2" icon showing up and I know it's mostly for a hard-wired LAN connection, but I always use wireless, so is there a way to disable this from showing up each time when windows starts, so that I can have less junk in the system tray area and also quicker load-up time? I don't want to 'delete' the availability of it should I use a hard-wire when connecting in future, but I just want to prevent it from always showing up in system tray with two computer icons with X marks...

My config is as listed in my clean install post linked below... Intel 5300 driver and Vista to manage the wireless. Perhaps Intel driver on XP is iffy... and they will get it worked out if they care to support XP further.

Dell Universal Connection Manager? sounds like a Dell add-on that you may be able to live without.

I suspect you only need one wired lan connection definition and can delete the extra one. Investigate their properties... probably the same. Right-click/Properties should also allow you to uncheck the option to display the system tray icon.
