Check the Service Manual for what can go where.

Hey, since I got my new E6400 a few days ago. I did a clean install of Vista Business x64 bit. I'm using the newest IDT HD Audio drivers from the Dell support site, but everytime I come back from standby/resume the Window's Host Process always crashes and disables sound for me. Though, somehow a few minutes later the sound comes back (I guess the process restarted). I'm assuming this is the audio driver, what are you guys seeing with the new one? (A06 I believe)

, John Ratsey, it looks like the wlan/wimax slot is half height only.. and the wlan full height slot has different antennas that reach there.. I guess I'll try to exchange the 5350 for a regular half height 5300

The WWAN slot is perfectly fine for a WiFi card or WiMAX card (like the 5350). The slot has 3 antennas, while the WLAN slot only has 2, but it's perfectly fine if one antenna cable remains disconnected. The 5350 will work perfectly in the WWAN slot...

You can always make your own cable and pass it through the slot and around the screen.

me and a few other users had this problem. it seemed to only happen for me when NOT on high performance mode. i took the advice to uninstall the drivers and now everything is fine. sound is equal or maybe a (tiny) bit worse using the windows drivers, but everything is much more stable.

Hmm, annoying as how I do want those on screen notifications. Oh well, I guess I can't have everything. Why is it all of those stupid audio drivers have issues?

It's much worse, if you adjusted correctly the SRS settings. Contact Dell support via phone or chat to help you out. If you don't report the problem, then Dell will never fix it, and you'll live all your life with this problem, like Kazaam.

    Install order (for Vista 64-bit)
    - Install Windows Vista 64-bit using Dell official disk or actual Vista disk. (DO NOT USE VLITE MADE DISK or anything else)
    - Dell System Software (Dell Utility set as Urgent, under System Utilities as the driver page)
    - SATA drivers (Intel matrix drivers)
    - Chipset drivers (intel and RICOH drivers)
    - Video card drivers (I use Nvidia Geforce drivers)
    - IDT Sound Card drivers.
    - Wired Network Card
    - Wireless Network Card (driver only, no software)
    - Windows update
    - Dell Control Point Manager (just this, no additional plug-ins such as network manager)
    - Intel vPro or AMT drivers
    - Bluetooth (if you have one)
    - Touchpad/track point drivers
    - Windows update, again.

Once everything is FULLY functional, create a restoration point, and Complete PC backup (this will make an image of your HDD). you do this in case something screws up, you can restore your system with Complete PC Backup tool in Vista disk.

Once done, you can install the rest. This means applications that interest you, Webcam, smart card, modem, etc... And THEN you test again. If all is good you can install your application applications. Once done, create a restoration point.
If your hardware is is fully functional, and your HDD is not corrupted, your system should theoretically be up and running at 100% without issues.

If you have a latency issue with your system, uninstall the Intel matrix storage controller (SATA controller) driver and install the older version from Dell.

HA! Good luck with the drivers.
I had 3 hours of battery life when I put Ubuntu (~9-hours under Vista), but that was some time ago, things might change.
