Hmm. I'll have to experiment with reinstalling it and such.

And to the person who wanted the HDTune screenshot, here it is:

I need to post in the thread where I was trying to sell my Acer Ferrari, as it seems that my attachment quota is full, and I didn't sell the laptop here.

    I have a 160GB 5400rpm Western Digital WD1600BEVT.

I'm not sure how I never noticed this on my 6400, but if I push on the back of the lcd with the lid closed the panel shows a ridiculous amount of flex - especially in the dead center and right between the hinges. None of this translates through to the actual screen (I don't see any ripples), but it still seems like it should be much more stiff. Is this typical or should I think about contacting dell?

    Thanks

I know some of you have (probably) been waiting for my review. Well, sadly it is going to have to wait for a few more days.

I am just sick and tired of the Samsumg LCD screen, so I convinced Dell to replace it. Fortunately, the replacement has already been confirmed to be an LG screen and it should be here tomorrow.

I'll probably have the review done by the end of this week if all goes well.

    Hi Greg,

Can you please post a screenshot of your Samsung LCD screen? How bad is it? Is it grainy?

    Thanks!

It isn't grainy, but in earlier posts I referenced the fact that the SEC screen flickered and wasn't as bright.

The flickering is what led me to request a replacement. I found a ton of situations in which the SEC screen would flicker, and I think it is being caused by Samsung's dithering algorithm (which apparently stinks).

Are the same manufacturers making the displays for the E6500, and if so, do the same quality differences apply? My E6500 is out for delivery as I type, and I am wondering what, if anything, I should be looking for with respect to screen manufacturer when it arrives.

    Thanks.

All I can say is that I have never seen a good Samsung screen. Then again, I am a very picky person so you might be happy with it.

What about the viewing angles of the LG?
    LG or SEC better?

An NBR review of the E6400 with nVidia GPU is now posted.

Perhaps the most useful finding is that the nVidia GPU is about twice as fast (based on 3DMark06) as the Intel integrated GPU. This is a useful fact for those people who wonder if they need the dedicated GPU.

The travel lite module saves just enough weight to get into Dell's specs. Going from 5.1lbs to 4.65 IIRC. It removes a couple 100 grams. It's not much TBH, but I never need my ODD anyway and it was part of my package deal :) .

I'm not sure what's the problem with the Sammy LCD either. I'd love to see both screens side to side. My Samsung has incredible colors - way way much better than my in-laws Inspiron 1525 with the glossy finish. Doesn't seem to be washed out to me. Photos looks nice - though I admit I do other thing than staring at pics on my lappy lol.

Every web pages show great; every subtle color tints on gmail are perfect and vivid. I double checked and I really have the SEC5442...

    Anyway.
