I'm with ya on this one. I use the trackpoint on the x200T, the touchpads on the others and mouse on the desktops. It isn't a deal breaker IMO.

    Joebarchuck,

I have been on the fence about buying the Z 600 for a month or so. I have been going back and forth on a new MacBook pro and the Z. I do have an older MBP, and I run Windows on a bootcamp partition. If I got new Windows only machine, I would keep the older MBP for my OSX stuff.

I have a couple of concerns about the Z.
    1) Battery Life
    2) Performance
    3) The length and width of the laptop

what is your experience so far with the Z, after using it a few days? Not benchmarks per say, just day to day usability.

I can comment about Performance, since I have a similar processor (SU9400). I can vouch that it is more than capable of serving in a primary computer. It takes pretty much anything I throw at it. My XT2 pretty much bottlenecks mostly on the SSD. It plays flash videos just fine. Plays MP3s, browser, Word, Excel and Adobe Professional all at the same time.

Dell lists the Z 600 dimensions at 15.4 x 10.7. Most 15" are about 14-14.5" and 10-10.5". So add an inch in width and a quarter of an inch on depth.

Thanks for the update. I also have an XT2. So the performance is better?
A couple more questions. Have you taken the back cover off yet? Are SSD's replaceable? Is the memory soldered onto the motherboard? And, what does the bottom trap door give you access to?

    Thanks!

I was suggesting the SU9400 on an XT2 would perform similiarly with the Z 600's SU9400..........

    Not necessarily better or worse.

On the XT2, the SSD is definitely replacable. One GB of RAM is soldered on and there is one slot for up to 4GBs of DDR3.

I am sorry, but my question was not clear. The questions about SSD and memory access was in relation to the Z600. I was wondering if I could replace the SSD on the Z600 down the road.

    Thanks!

The access panel looks like the whole bottom plate. The memory is soldered on. The Harddrives are replacable though.
