Just canceled my order for W520 and ordered a M4600.

I would like to buy a good SSD and 16 GB Ram for the machine (2GB preinstalled- which i will remove).

I am not sure if I am willing to replace my CD tray for the additional SSD. What are the disadvantages of the msata?
Would like to use the SSD for booting and some programs. I think 80 gb are enough.

    What do you guys think?
    Thx for the help!

    With only 1 drive, 80GB seems really small, but I don't know what you're using it for. I picked up 16GB ram as well (Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 HyperX Plug n Play Laptop Memory Model KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G x2).

I ordered 5 days ago and I'm still in pre-production.

I'll give Dell until 6/1 and that's it.

The M4600 sounds like a great laptop especially with IPS screen. My eye sight is very poor but would love to have an IPS screen. Just wondering if I order 1920x1080 IPS screen and adjust fonts to largest if that will cause various interface distortions? I would certainly have to do that is I got that screen. Might just settle for 1600x900 version non-IPS screen.

95% of the reason I ordered it was for the RGBLED IPS.

Don't see too many of those panels in laptops:)

I have a 500GB drive in it. But I want to use this mire as a storage and programs where I dont need the speed.

So the question is: adios DVD tray and hello SSD or use a mSATA ( with which I am not ver familiar...)

The fastest RAM available for the 4600 on the Dell configurator is the DDR3-1333MHz. Will the 1600MHz you ordered also work?

    Thanks,
    Chris

From what I could find out, it should have no problem. There is 1600mhz on the dell configurator, but it's expensive ($800?!?). 1866mhz should work as well but the timing is slow so people were saying the 1600 is probably a better choice since its cheaper.

Don't be surprised if it's delayed past 6/1.

*sigh* I envy the US Dell prices...:(

Can't you just get someone to forward it to you?
