    It's just a laptop:)

If it's delayed than maybe an M18x will do.

The irony. I have a huge discount on Precisions in Canada (doesn't apply to the US prices). But even after discount the price is higher than in the US. Bringing a laptop from the US with all the extra hassle and shipping costs will be the same as buying it here through our channel. In other words, - not worth it :(

I am really struggling with the video card and the screen decision.

Can anyone break down the pros and cons of the video cards? I am sure they excel at different things.

In terms of the screen, is the current ultrasharp comparable to my previous workstation's ultrasharp? Is the IPS that much better? If I throw down for the IPS would I be a fool not to throw down for the expensive NVIDEA?

The way it looks, one real advantage of Nvidia GPUs in the M6600/4600 is the battery life. There's no option to change to the IGP from the AMD cards. Other than that it depends whether or not you really need the CUDA/Physx and all the PRO apps performance advantages. If not required, I'd opt go for the AMD GPU hands down, as in many cases of general use the FirePro's have an edge.

As for the screen, the IPS will have a higher gamut and perfect viewing angles. Whether or not it's worthy of the steep upgrade price - up to you. Personally, if I had the funds I'd grab the IPS. Had a 8740w with DC2 and trust me that screen is beyond amazing. The colors are deep and vivid, it changes the whole experience with the laptop.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Sounds like IPS might be worth the cost, the video card I am still unsure about. I do play some games, but my primary objective is to use the computer as a workstation to develop software. Of course, I end up living on my machine if you follow so everything ancillary that I do (games, movies, etc) will occur on it.

    Sounds

In other words, you don't really have software that requires Nvidia GPU as a must? If so, the next question would be how crucial for you is the battery life? If you can live with 3-4 hours that can be achieved with the firepro, go for it, it should run games slightly better and costs way less.
But I'm biased towards the REDs, always had very good experience with Radeons and FirePros.

I have a question regarding the IPS screen too. My last screen was the 1920x1200 frm the T 61p. Honestly I did not really like that screen the colours were not that nice and the brightness just a disaster.
No I am ordering a M4600. Right now I chose the standard 1080p due t the fact that it has 300nites and the contrast is not too bad either.
On the other hand the IPS screen sounds like being a really good thing.

But I am really scared that it might not be bright enough. Are there any picture or test that compare the screens?

    Thx.

Well this seems like an important point I didn't pay attention to earlier.

Your telling me Nvidia will provide me with significant extra battery life across the board or is it just related to certain types of uses?

Does anyone have more information on the full-hd rgb panel? (not the ips, since it is not available in the netherlands). What are the specifications of the rgb-screen? brightness, blacklevels and a-rbg for example
