I appreciate the quick reply but how about your ram I am guessing it was stock from dell but that is actually the only thing I am considering for aftermarket upgrade

I am still interested in any experience with dell data recovery service is it worth it and I cant really wrap my head around how it works

The 2gb free data is kinda funny fr me cuz I have single files larger than that and even 50gb is nowhere near large enough but dropbox is a good application and I use it mainly for file transfers between devices very well

I currently backup via 1tb external and you are right that months was a bit of an exaggeration but in my work even days lost can be a huge deal breaker literally with contracted deliverable dates meaning all nighters for me after lost tedious work Given large file sizes I was looking at 2 512 ssd's in raid 0 but its all still a bit sketch for me

I agree with previous response that this is off topic and not really the right place but I feel your pain so Ill give this a short whack

Im no cpu expert or tech expert but if your having heat issues try an old program named fanGUI or the current version there are lots of fan control programs although this wont fix the root prob it should cool you down Side note this applies for all so I think its marginally appropriate but def should not become a snow ball besides its cmas lets show some spirit

    First measurements are in.

As expected, measured color gamut exceeds NTSC and Adobe RGB. The color gamut is huge.

Max brightness was a very unexpected 288.4 cd/m2 (otherwise known as candela or nits). Dell's site says the max brightness should typically be 210.

I am not seeing any evidence of screen tint so far.

I apologize for glossing over part of your question.
In regards to RAM, I absolutely don't buy my RAM from Dell because of the exponential price difference and the ease of installing your own RAM. So in this case what I did was buy 8GB of 1333 RAM from Crucial for $92 rather than from Dell for $555.
After I did that, I got to thinking and remembered doing some testing of different speed RAM some years back and remembering that there was a substantial difference between performance. (I don't recall if it was 5% or 10% but am guessing it was in that range.) So I decided that $92 wasn't much to loose, and I could always return it or sell it, so I decided to also buy 16GB of Kingston HyperX 1600MHz RAM. I believe it is P/N 4Gx2|KHX KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G R.
This 16GB of 1600 MHz RAM was something like $130 after rebate as opposed to Dell's price of $725 for 16GB of 16 MHz.
My only concern with the 1600 MHz is that the faster you go it is a little bit more susceptible to instability (but I don't expect this will be a problem anymore) and also that it will of course run hotter and if you do put it on your lap it may get pretty warm. But again, because it is so cheap, why not try both?

I had your same question and confusion about the recovery disk and how that works for a clean install. There is an operating system disk you that you can order at the same time as you order the machine and it is $3 I think. So just treat that as you Windows 7 DVD because I think that this is exactly what it is, it just has a different label on it. Please let me know if I missed anything.

I just realized that you were talking about Dell file recovery services - I think that is something totally different that the OS DVD I was referring to and I don't know anything about it so I can't help there.

    Hi all,

I just bought a M6600 and I see several problems with:

_ When it is connected to the mains and the battery is charging (LED battery fixed, ok)
but when it comes to about 90% load, the LED flashes slowly and that the hard drive.
Could you tell me where is the problem?

_ The LED of my hard drive blinks every second, all day, even when I do nothing, is this normal?

Thank you in advance for your help.

It's not that since the fan is blowing at 100% during the stress test. This appears to be a known issue a year ago. Dell won't send a guy out unless they have a more definitive problem. To them, 94 degrees C is not a problem, but they are having me send it back to them to check it over.
I'll start another new thread to chat about it.

Have you tried the Dell Premier color application?

Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

No profiles are required. Also, since premier color controls the desktop and everything in it, don't use color managed apps (or select a native color profile).

Sorry, but not. Checked with AUO, unfortunately nobody here have time to check, if it happens with his/her unit too or whether it's just my unit problem  (check = open somethink with white color, take your digital camera or cell phone and check, if you can see on camera/phone video stable picture or some moving parts like on the Dell U2412M LED Backlight flickering - YouTube video). Problem is in backlight with low frequency blinking (if this is connected with energy saving, why Dell doesn't want to add slider in BIOS with levels between fast refreshing and energy saving ?)

PS. With this BIOS version I also don't see option for enabling/disabling ASF for remote unit managing. Dell describes, that it exist, but it's not visible in my unit (the same story - nobody here have to time to reset own M6600 and see in BIOS, if such option exist) This is interesting - it allows for some remote administration functionalities and seems to be enabled by defaulyt according to some programs.
