thx for link. Please note, that my idea was - it would be nice to have switching between integrated/external card for ATI too (if not in M6600, than maybe in M6700 :D ). It could make such laptop cheap dream machine for games (when you want to play, you enable ATI card; when you work only, you use Intel - all this cheaper than with config with Nivida). It doesn't have to be "on fly" like with Optimus, BIOS setting is enough.

I have had 5 m6600's all with Quadro 3000M & AUO panels. No flickering at the lowest back light level on any of them. Currently running the A07 Bios but never had the problem with previous bios.

I do however disable the Intel Graphics Control Panel items from running at start up by removing the registry keys to help keep my color profiles from being reset. Perhaps someone with the flickering could give it a try and post their results.

There are three entries in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" that I remove. I don't recall exactly which ones but the names should make them apparent.

PS - It's never a bad idea to create a system restore point or at least export the current registry values if you are not familiar with editing the registry.

Please note that I did not say you had to run at max brightness, only that I did so. I can barely make out any banding at minimum brightness, anything above that and it is unnoticeable.

Any time you use a camera to film a display you introduce the possibility of banding. This is due to the difference in refresh rates, in this case the pulsing of the LED's compared to the camera itself. It really makes it look much worse than it is.

My panel isn't really AG. It's supposed to be partially AG since it's a touchscreen, but it looks glossy to me. It suits my needs fine since I always work indoors.

sure, we are only discussing and exchanging opinions.

I'm not expert in this concrete area, but in the specs for AUO v5 (my LCD) there is info, that PWM (backlight) frequency is 100 - 20000 Hz. Observations show, that there is used very low value. Why can't be used let's say 1000 Hz ? (sorry for my lack of knowledge here - for profs maybe this is trivial and funny question)

From the second hand: when blinking can't be elimininated (which is not true - Asus was able to do it) , there should be also offered CCFL displays too...

I have non touch panel, but similar feeling. This shouldn't be probably named full matt (non-glare) in premium system. Maybe using Hann-Star will be solution for this ? (but will it work with M6600 ?) Or special foil ?

Absolutely. Please don't take anything I say as argumentative.

I really don't know for sure. It may be a function of the LEDs used or their individual minimum brightness. CCFL is going to disappear altogether soon enough, but if it was offered in anything I would think this grade of laptop would warrant it.

You've got me here. I've never had a full matte (AG) display. I use mine solely as a desktop replacement due to space constraints (I keep it by the bed). I will lug it about from time to time, usually to family functions when I need to be able to monitor/fix servers remotely. I don't do it enough to warrant a smaller, dedicated, laptop and some of the SW I use is PC only (no Android or iOS). In short, I always use mine indoors.

I just have my laptop shipped from Dell depot for some hinge repairs, I did lot of call to the techs to have the Chimei panel repalced and provided lot of infromation and specs I saw here and had no luck, as far as they were concerned all these panels provide same perfromance and hence no need to replace.

My conclusion is unless you know some one in Dell that has a good handle on this topic you are out of luck! I am not sure general tech support has a clue on the m6600 and panel qulaity aspects, so Chimei could be the major screens in most of them.

I am just bummed to use a laptop with an inferor screen!

For those finding cumbersome to find out what drivers to install for the M6600 and specially for those with a new one with IPS, I have posted a commented guide/list for the drivers you need to install here:

Precision M6600 guide for new owners - Re-install OS, remove/replace HDD, etc. [will be updated] - Page 2

I have uploaded all the drivers as some of them have been missing in Dell's support web for some time...

Hope it helps you not wasting as much time as it took me figuring out, finding and reinstalling them...

    Cheers

Message forum member Dell-Mano G, he's the Dell product manager for the M6600. He should be able to get you a better panel.
Mano said in September that the Che Mei was no longer being used.
