I sent him a message a few weeks ago and he has not responded. My M6600 has the Chi Mei panel with dead pixels.

Maybe Dell-Mano G no longer works for Dell? Just a thought.

All these problems with the M6600 are a bit worrying as I was planning on getting one of these (or the M4600) in the next couple of weeks. I guess I should re-think my plans and look elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure any 1080p panel in the M6600 with dead pixels falls under their "premium panel guarantee", and you should be able to get it replaced for free.

My emails have not rejected from his Dell email address I used, so I'm assuming he still works there..

some people heard that chimei is no longer used for new machines since september. Is this confirmed information??? I understand that Chi Mei ones have degraded performance. I need to ensure that any $10,000+ system meets perfect quality.

Forum member Mano, product manager for the M6600, said it was put on hold back on 9.8.11. Put on hold is not exactly the same as not being used..Hmmmmm

    Mano's post is here:

Here we go again. I was just using our M6600 (the replacement for the M6600 with the bad video card) and the display blinked several times. Not the well known flickering, but a complete blinking in and out. The backlight was not on the lowest level. Perhaps related to the new bios that fixed the flickering?

EDIT::I'm getting the flickering in the lower backlight settings again now. Oh boy...

Does anyone have the AUO panel that has flickering? I'm thinking the problems only happen with the LG panel

Like I said few posts ago:

    1. CMO + BIOS v6 -> I experience non-stable picture, which can be observed as flickering (I confirm it with digital camera -> I observe faster/slower moving strips similar to these from video Dell U2412M LED Backlight flickering - YouTube, which wasn't created by me or any person connected with me)

    2. AUO B173HW01 V5 + BIOS V7 -> the same

This flickering can be fixed probably by new BIOS. Additionally currently I think (with AUO), that this is not full matt screen and my problems with using it can be partially connected with it (I think, that my eyes see some reflections).

    I see few options now:

    1. buying some other LCD screen and replacing on my own, but it can't be too expensive, I must know, which screen will be compatible with M6600 and Dell has to fix backlight settings first

    2. buying external monitor

    3. selling M6600

    4. getting full help from Dell (but they seems not to have better "matt" screens)

PS. I'm currently very tired with this. M6600 has got many advantages, but picture is simply not good enough for me and I don't know, whether ASF (remote access technology) is enabled inside.

I received a pm from Dell Mano-G a couple hours ago. He told me to call Dell and they would replace my panel with dead pixels with another panel. He also said that if it is a Chi Mei panel, I would get one from another vendor, not Chi Mei. He couldn't guarantee me AUO, but it wouldn't be Chi Mei.

Oh, my flickering is so obvious anyone can see it with the naked eye from 20 feet away. It almost looks like an electric short. This is on the lower backlight settings, while on or off the battery. Raise the backlight a few notches, and it goes away, with the naked eye anyway.

OK, Dell service just told me this:

"The flickering issue generally gets resolved via a screen and cover replacement from my experience, most M6600s don't have the problem so it may just be a specific batch of screens."

My software program reports it as the LG LP173WF1 panel, with a date of 2010. Sounds like a refurb panel is in it since it has that date.
The protective sticker is still over the Dell emblem on the lid, and it looks new. This is a refurb M6600
