If you are not using raid change it to AHCI especially if you are going to install an SSD.

Dude, that's what I'm saying man. We have a refurb M6600 with the flickering LCD, I complained to Dell, and since we have had a nightmare of problems, Dell sent us a completely all new production M6600 not a refurb. It flickers too.Someone else mentioned they too got a new replacement M6600 that also flickered.

That's Dell, hit or miss every time. :( Get them to keep replacing it for you until Dell learns to improve on their QC.

Check out the lower left corner. Says "Run Intel driver update utility". :) You may be asked to install Java, Flash, or some plug-ins from HuaDang Inc....etc can't remeber the specifics. Always ready before you click. :) It's the web these days, they will throw anything at you. but can be safe with Intel websites.

Not really. N-Trig is the Touchscreen, not the LCD panel. LG and Philips are the same, LG Philips. As far as I know there are only 3:

    AU Optronics (H8D3K)
    LG w/o IPS
    LG w/IPS

The part numbers are in this thread.

Edit: AU Panel part number is H8D3K

HP and Lenovo have their share of issues. Lenovo has been especially bad for us with unavailable replacement parts when something breaks.

MacBook Pros have their fair share of issues as well. Lots of defective hard drives and screens here lately. We also had issues with early Lion machines only having 25% of their previous battery life after upgrading and running very hot.

Having a replacement part installed in a Dell is not the problem. Having unqualified workers replacing those parts is.

Then again, there are people out there with a vested interest in never being happy with their current machine - especially when there is a new model out there.

    LG with IPS is:
    Dell Part Number 04259G
    LP173WF3 17.3" FHD (SL) (B1)

There are a LOT of other parts needed to install the panel on an M6600. Cables, Interposer, Unique Lid, etc...

Definitely not a drop in component.

We had a family get together last night. I brought along the new production M6600 with me to show the old folks. I asked one 80 year old relative to view the M6600 and tell me what she saw. She said she saw flickering and was that normal? I said yes, with the LG panel, it's normal :D

Here is an excerpt from the LG spec sheet. This could be the cause of the flickering in the M6600:

"8. The operation of LED Driver below minimum dimming ratio may cause flickering or reliability issue.
    9. If Jitter of PWM is bigger than maximum. It may cause flickering.
    10. This Spec. is not effective at 100% dimming ratio as an exception because it has DC level equivalent
to 0Hz. In spite of acceptable range as defined, the PWM Frequency should be fixed and stable for
more consistent brightness control at any specific level desired.
    11. The life time is determined as the time at which the typical brightness of LCD is 50% compare to that of
initial value at the typical LED current. These LED backlight has 6 strings on it and the typical current
of LED’s string is base on 22mA."
