You have to wait a little while. Plug and unplug the power back-on.

Dejavu. I faced this problem just at the cafe this afternoon, having a beer and doing some work on Sunday, accidentally kicked the power switch below the seat to off.

A bug withh dellware again. ?

I got this problem too. Sometimes I force shutdown when the system crashed. I am on Win7 x64 Pro.

The moment you get to Dell to keep replacing parts. You will end up with a brand new machine with refurbished parts.

Don't think there's anything wrong with your m6600. It's just Windows overloading users with cry wolf alarms.

    Thanks.

I am 99% sure this will not work, and that there is only one mSATA port. Haven't tried it though. :p

mSATA and mini-PCI-express are actually different technologies, the connectors just happen to be the same (possibly convenient though confusing). Though you could certainly find another mini-PCIe device to stick in there, it doesn't have to be WWAN. Not really sure what could go there that would be useful, though. If you could find something like this --- a SSD on a mini-PCIe card with built-in SATA controller (not a mSATA drive, which uses the SATA controller on the motherboard), that seems like it should work. This particular one is half-height mini-PCIe, though.

Thanks for the info. Yea, mSATA/mPCI-E can be confusing to try and figure out what will work with what. Not sure what other mPCI-E devices would useful to me but an empty slot seems like such a waste. I'll have to investigate the mPCI-E SSD option. +rep

    Ok sorry, forum habit. :(

I didn't use hibernate. I was typing along and I accidentally kicked the power plug (the socket on the walls in Malaysia comes with an on-off switch).

The power plug was below my sofa seat which I accidentally kicked the switch to off state, my brightness went dim coz of it. Turn the switch back on, and the brightness is still dim. Power modes didn't switch even when power is back on. I checked and Precision power cable blue LED is lit up. Checked all the connections of the power adaptor. All seems ok.

Still dim. Check the status bar, battery says not charging. Worried me for a moment coz of Dell. If one problem occurs means u get a string of problems to follow thru next. I unplugged the power adaptor from the LED end. Waited 3 seconds and plugged it back on.

Finally power mode switch back to charging and brightness back. No reboot was done.

I will monitor and will try out hibernate.

** Thanks JohnAndrewKossey for winsat. Only problem is can't seem to find 1333mhz CL7 DDR3 Sodimm of 8GB per stick.

    1) My M6600 doesn't need to "force shutdown". It dies totally and completely while I am on Windows and I am writing stuff (espcially txt files, losing all content...).

    2) My M6600 is a total mix of pieces of every kind. So unfortunate :(
[was bought from US -> (CMO2LG) serviced in Italy -> told D-Italy LG flicker-issue -> D-Italy readies a WUR, bt it was too late 'coz I moved to Aussie -> D-OZ do not want to give me a WUR, bt wants to fix it -> they broke it off completely -> then fixed it, worked for a mth - FEB2k12 -> now it's broken again].

    3) I don't have wolf cry alarms from Windows, I have killer power offs happening daily on an unexpected basis (refer to n.1)!

[Warning: strong negative feelings] When it BSODs I feel like I bought an heavy pos and only the thought of "how much" I spent on it, prevents me to smack it on the wall.

[disclaimer] I never mistreated my M6600 and it has been kept _maniacally_ well.

The random reboots here (though very rare, not as much a problem as yours) have almost certainly been related with the Optimus thing (or its interaction with a given Quadro driver release). Try to update your drivers - I'm happy with the newest one; no reboots so far :)

    David,

To test it, I have installed the 4x8GB 1600MHz in my M6600 and CPU-Z reports the following:

Northbridge Intel Sandy Bridge rev. 09
    Southbridge Intel QM67 rev. 04
    Memory Type DDR3
    Memory Size 32768 MBytes
    Channels Dual
    Memory Frequency 798.3 MHz (1:6)
    CAS# latency (CL) 11.0
    RAS# to CAS# delay (tRCD) 11
    RAS# Precharge (tRP) 11
    Cycle Time (tRAS) 28
    Command Rate (CR) 2T
    MCHBAR I/O Base address 0x0FED10000
    MCHBAR I/O Size 19456
    MCHBAR registers

So as I understand it, is is only 798.3 MHz @ CL11 (and that is bad, correct?). So I think should definitely replace the 1600MHz with the 1333MHz memory. I am not a hardware expert so the above figures do not mean nothing for me <g>

    The DIMM reports:
    # 1
    SMBus address 0x50
    Memory type DDR3
    Module format SO-DIMM
    Manufacturer (ID) Samsung (CE00000000000000)
    Size 8192 MBytes
    Max bandwidth PC3-12800 (800 MHz)
    Part number M471B1G73BH0-CK0
    Manufacturing date Week 38/Year 11
    Number of banks 8
    Nominal Voltage 1.50 Volts
    EPP no
    XMP no

    Thanks,
    Tom
