    Thank You.

I mean 100% backlit. In the BIOS, in Win7.

    WBR, Alex.

I really need your help. We have ordered a Dell M6600 Intel Core i7-2720QM. Because we have to run several virtual machines simultaneously (under VMWare 8), the memory dealer suggested Samsung 4x8GB (32GB) 1600 MHz memory. Both the machine and memory will arrive next week. But I read that only 4x4GB 1600MHz is supported. Is this still true or is it possible to use the "latest" 4x8GB 1600MHz memory in the M6600 now? I read all relevant threads here and some say max is 16GB, some say 32GB.

BTW, I am aware that the spec says 4x4GB 1600MHz is the max. But is this still "up-to-date"?

    Thank you for your help.

    Tom

Because of a chipset limitation, the max you can use at 1600 MHz is 16 GB (4 x 4GB). However, the machine can take up to 32 GB of memory (4 x 8GB); it will run them at 1333 MHz.

I keep having an issue when my computer comes back from hibernate mode, my power settings do not switch over when I pull the battery charger cord out from the CPU. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I am using the balanced power settings and I have my brightness set to about 40% when off battery, but as I said, after coming back from hibernate and pulling the cord out, the screen brightness does not dim at all.

Rebooting seems to solve the issue, but I shouldn't have to do that every day. Thanks in advance for any help given!

Thank you for your reply! Very much appreciated.

Does that mean I could use the 4x8GB (1600MHz) I am going to receive next week and the Dell M6600 will automatically (downclock) and run them at 1333 MHz? Or is this against "the rules"?

    Thank you!!

I'm not quite sure. I think it should work fine that way, but I haven't tested it myself. Maybe someone else will have a better answer.

Yes, it will. The real question is what CAS latency it will use. This depends on the timings programmed into the eeprom on each stick of RAM. 1333MHz @ CL7 is what you want.

They have several different manufacturers, odds are you got one from a different manufacturer. When I had two of mine side by side during an exchange one was noticeably brighter but the other was more uniformly lit. I chose to keep the brighter of the two as I liked the feel a bit better, it wasn't as mushy. Now my W is acting up a bit, probably too much SWTOR...

    Hello all,
Recently my M6600 started behaving on me.
On 31/01 it was serviced by the Dell warehouse, where they replaced almost everything
(i.e.:MB,CPU,IOpanel,HSink,fan,etc.) and tested it successfully for 2 days.

Then it was sent back to me and I used it successfully without problems 'till 1st March, when it started BSOD-ing:

My OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 w/Hyper-V and is installed on my Corsair SSD.

At the beginning I suspected the Corsair SSD, but I confirm it is not it,
since I just cloned the SSD to the original dell hdd, and booted the M6600 from the original hdd and the BSODs kept coming.

    The error reported is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

I posted the detailed error message over at the MS Support forum:
    Win2k8R2 SP1 Bugcheck 0x0000009f on Dell Precision M6600.
And they seem to point me to a possible hw problem.

When it BSODs, it isn't able to write a Minidump on C:\Windows\Minidump\ - don't know why
(not on the SSD nor on the standard hdd).

I ran the full BIOS Dell Diagnostics, the RAM was successfully tested many times and the CPU seems cool enough (54C-64C).

    Any clues, anybody?

I was going to suggest running memtest as all my early problems stemmed from one bad RAM, but I see you say that has already been tested. Hope you work it out.
