Don't forget the 1866 Mhz RAM you have chosen is CL 11 whereas the 1600Mhz (still Kingston's HyperX PnP) is CL9.

yes, the second bay is actually a caddy designed for external access. all you have to do is put your ssd in place of the stock hd. (or leave it where it is and just set the ssd as the boot drive, both those slots are sata 3, the mSata slot is the only one that is sata 2

True yes. But there is only a slight difference between the two, and although I am a huge fan of latency, you can't boil RAM performance down to only one or the other. Especially when you consider frequency denotes how often the processor can access the RAM. In my mind I would say access (mhz or clocks etc) and latency both need to be pretty balanced. I do like the 1600 cl9 a lot for a laptop, BUT:

1866 scores better on the WEI scoring chart.

Petty i know, but who hasn't done something like that before :)

EDIT: Essentially I like to think that my laptop has higher numbers than it had before lol. Embarrassing and childish just a little.

Just so you know the 1600 (Kingston HyperX) has a WEI of 7.9.

Hi guys, I've been monitoring prices in Dell Outlet (UK) for a while, and bit the bullet this weekend on an M6600 (Certified Refurbished) with the following spec. I also got the Pro Support.

    12 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (4 DIMMs) 2X2GB/2x4GB
    Carry Case : Not Included
320 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
Camera : Integrated 2.1 Mega Pixel Camera with Microphone
    Battery: Primary 9-cell 97W/HR
    Keyboard
    Software
    English Windows 7 Professional
Display: 17.3in Ultrasharp FHD (1920x1080) LED-backlit LCD Panel
Processor: Intel Core i7-2860QM (2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.60 GHz)
AntiVirus: McAfee SecurityCenter 30 Day trial version
    Misc
    240W A/C Adapter
Wireless: Intel Pro Wireless 6300 (802.11 a/b/g/n) Half Mini Card
Graphics: AMD FirePro M8900 Mobility Pro Graphics with 2GB GDDR5
Optical Drive: 8X DVD+/-RW Tray Load Drive
    English Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64 Bit)
    Wireless: Dell 375 Bluetooth Card
    Certified Refurbished

Don't know if its just me, but the pricing on Dell Outlet seems really random. The spec below was considerably cheaper than older (and slower i7) processors, with less RAM. Maybe the condition of this one will be worse.

Previously had an E6400 which is still running fine albeit in a state now that my toddler has taken to jumping up and down on the screen and pulling keys out for fun - won't be letting him near the M6600!

My understanding from browsing the threads is there is a slight flex issue on the Backlit keyboard, so I'll stick with the one above unless I can source a keyboard cheaply (none on eBay?).

Are there any advantages of a mini SSD as boot disk as opposed to using the 2nd bay?

Pretty sure that was the other way around. The standard KB has some flex but the backlit KB has little to no flex due to the extra plastic backing required for the backlighting. My backlit KB certainly has little to no flex and I highly recommend it.

    Hi,
This cost me £1269.25 inc VAT
But its the Pro Support that pushed this up - the system was up on Outlet for £898.30 exc VAT (i.e. £1077.96 inc VAT).

Umming and Aahing about the ProSupport but thought it would probably be worth it in the long run just for the peace of mind. Shame they don't do Accidental Damage Cover through Outlet. I spec'd a new M6600 with the same as above and it came to approx £1800 not inc VAT

But the pricing really does seem random in Outlet. Sometimes FirePro systems are priced higher than Quadro 4000m, even though all other specs are the same - which doesn't make sense to me in terms of who the end users are.

I'll receive this on Friday so will advise if its in bad shape. It's Certified Refurbished, not Scratch and Dent.

Thanks for this, I will keep an eye out for UK backlit m4600/m6600 keyboards on eBay - nothing there at the moment.
