Assuming you have re-run the calibration ect, I would guess its a hardware issue. I had similar issues with m6600 touch screens and in the end the fix was hardware. Coincidentally, dell repair mauled one of my machines as well. It went back 3 times with more stuff getting broken than fixed each time. In the end dell just replaced the machine with a new one.

The 3000m works great for me with photoshop & premier pro and optimus gives great battery life when not using the Quadro. Can't say I use any cad software however. For my use, I found the biggest bottleneck was storage, so I would put your money towards an SSD or even a 64gb mSata as a scratch disk over a better processor. I purchased my m6600 some time ago and even the 2720QM moves along adequately.

While this is unlikely and you have probably already checked, make sure there isn't anything caught between the bezel and the touchscreen on that particular side. You should be able to slightly lift the bezel away from the digitizer to check. Of course, you could remove the entire bezel, it's just 2 screws behind the covers in the lower right/left corners.

Thanks for the input guys. I can switch to pen only setting, and it works OK. I switch to touch, and it registers a hit on the left side, about an inch in and 3inches up. I tried to run the calibration again, but it won't register any hand touches at all.
I spoke with dell service today. He's wanting to replace the screen. Here we go again.....

See all those refurbs in the outlet? I've owned half of them...

Are there any different style trackpoints that fit?

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1212&SUBSYS_04BA1028&REV_A1 (Alienware)
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1212&SUBSYS_04A41028&REV_A1 (M6600)

p.s : only use the inf file
if you already flashed the vbios, downloaded 301.24 beta driver and using M6600 (not alienware)

Yep I did flash the vbios, it runs flawlessly.
I can see on your pic that your 2960XM in your M6600 is o/c (turbo up to 4400mhz), I thought we couldn't o/c the CPU in the precision?

i prefer not to .. because it's not optimized for that !
but i did Overclock the Quadro3000m to 780core and getting 42-43fps average in Catia which is crazy high compare to higher tier Quadro 4000m.

like gtx580m, the 675m is sluggy in most of specviewperf's benchmark but
if you're only use 3ds Max 12 (incoming 2013 with improved nitrous viewport)
with Nitrous > 580m/675m beat the quadro3000m because of it's raw power.

    @Paul
It's the Throttlestop (i copied from my m17xR3 along with the config settings) i run on taskbar!
u can change the limiter (TRL) to whatever you want but still m6600 won't reach those multiplier.
only if some1 mod the bios and unlock those options :(
