    can you confirm:

    1) is this the 580GTX you mentioned before?
    2) Does it have the 675GTX vbios installed? Surely this is a different generation vbios?
    3) Did you have to load a custom system BIOS so it understood the vbios?

I'm only interested in gaming, just wondering if you could run some 3dmark benchmarks to get an idea of how much faster it is.

    thanks

    Hi,

I've just got a Dell M6600 through work and having some trouble with the touchpad. It's not very responsive. As in when I move the cursor it's very jumpy or it doesn't move at all.

Sometimes it also tries to scroll either horizontal or vertical even though I'm only using one finger on the touchpad.

I've tried all settings and have reinstalled the driver but can't get it any better.

The odd thing is that in the bios screen the touchpad performs perfectly. Sounds like driver issues to me but the uninstall/reinstall didn't help.

Have anyone else experienced this and maybe have a fix?

    Thanks!

Hey I just got my second (replacement) m6600 up and running, so I figured I would post my experience on here to assist anyone with general ideas and the like.

First M6600 was wounded. It came brand new and had a warped lid, improperly seated plastics, and the latch didn't work (probably because of the lid warp)

Calls to Dell had a technician on his way, but during that time I found an identical model in the Dell outlet for about $1000 less than the small business discount.

Returned New machine and got Refurb.

Although the refurbished machine still has some slight, quirky issues (more on those later), I love this laptop and wanted to share my experience and notes.

    Config:

    i7 2760qm
    16gb (4x4) 1600mhz Kingston RAM
    256gb (128x2) Plextor M3 Pro's, RAID 0
    Firepro m8900 2gb DDR5
    1080p FHD Wideview
    Backlit Keyboard, FP, SC, Webcam

    Laptop Cost
$1460 (got pro support for 3 years also)

    Upgrade cost
$560 (Plextor's and Kingston replaced 750gb HD and 4gb RAM)

    Total $2020

    Very, very fast system.

    WEI Scores

    Processor 7.6
    Memory 7.8
    Graphics 7.6
    Gaming 7.6
    Hard Drive 7.9

    Super Pi Calc (1 Million)
    10.795 Seconds

I tested this against my old gaming desktop, a quad core phenom 2 (4ghz), and an AMD 6870 2gb DDR5

Super PI Cal (Older Desktop that eats 230 watts TDP compared to 45w i7)
    17.4 seconds (1 Million)

WEI score on older machine identical, only Graphics and Gaming were 7.8

Oddly enough though I was able to game at slightly higher FPS on the firepro compared to my 6870 2gb edition. Very nice for a laptop card.

    Quirks:

1 - Audio onboard is finicky (got a bad controller I think, not in a hurry to replace it because it doesn't bother me that much, but these things seem to have a relatively high amount of issues for being tested and/or brand new. probably because of the amount of custom configurations available. but that's what 3 year warranties are for)

2 - Capacitor whine when running Hard disk intensive tasks. ATTO caused it to squeal, so I didn't finish the test. I know a lot of new computers do the singing capacitor thing, but I didn't want to push my luck. I think it's the RAID controller getting into its groove when put under load but i'm not sure.

Aside from the frequent, small, nagging issues that one would think should not be a problem with a brand new product, these laptops are amazing. I think a lot of their issues come from the sheer amount of options they have, and to be fair Dell is very quick to address any issues with these machines. These are their flagship laptop after all. I use mine for heavy VM work and medium gaming. I think they are a much better buy than a similarly priced alienware, have a better warranty, and don't look like a plastic spaceship made by a child.

Again, not really a full review or breakdown, but just posting my two cents for anyone that can use them.

    hi all!

I am waiting for my M6600 to arrive.

I noticed many of you are using 2 drives to run RAID 0. The laptop supports RAID 5 but have to work with the mSATA drive.

Is it possible to replace the optical drive (since it's also a SATA connection) with another HDD and make it the 3rd HDD to run on the RAID 5 configuration?

Another things is the AC power adaptor, is it true that this laptop can only be powered by 210W power brick?

What about replicator? Does it run well on both PR02X and PR03X?

Hi, well I just received my M6600 with the below specs today.
Took a few pics while unboxing, there was a dent in the box so I was worried it had been treated roughly by the couriers in transit. I was impressed with the packaging - initially it seemed very minimal, but the laptop was held in place with a tension film onto cardboard, which gave plenty of space around the laptop.

As for the laptop, it's massive! I haven't had a chance to do much with it. I received no backup media or OS disc.

I did however notice that there definitely is flex around the centre of the keyboard where the touchpad is, so I will be upgrading to backlit at some point in the near future. I have got this following an E6400 with backlit keyboard that had what was to me a great keyboard without any significant flex. Will let you know more once I get a chance to play with it (hopefully on tonight's night shift!)
