I'm hoping you guys fan give me your opinions on what's maybe a nitpicky issue, but it's been nagging at me...

In late 2010. I purchased a M6500 through the outlet. Two of my primary requirements were that it had the RGB LED screen and the 920XM Extreme Edition quad core processor. Fast forward to present day, the machine had already been replaced once with a brand new system, and that new system has since had the motherboard replaced four times. Dell is now replacing the system with a new M6600 (which I think is awesome service on their part). The system meets or exceeds the previous system (including an IPS RGB LED screen) in all areas but one... The processor in the replacement system is a quad core 2760QM... While the processor benchmarks much higher than the 920XM, it only has 6MB of cache and it isn't the Extreme Edition. I called Dell and they asked me to try out the processor when I get the system, and if I'm not satisfied, they'll take care of it (they didn't specifically say, nor did I ask, if they'd replace the processor with the Extreme Edition). I'm going to be fair and give the processor a full workout. Who knows, maybe I'll be happy with it. But, I have to ask, should I just not worry about the processor (considering everything else), or should I listen to the little voice in the back of my head that says "you specifically ordered the EE, therefore it should be replaced with the EE"?

whiteRtlNav i think thera is 2 ways:
first way: the performance are about the same
other way: the processor price, you paid around 1k dollars for EE=(

btw the new quadros will be:
NVIDIA Quadro K3000M, with 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
NVIDIA Quadro K4000M, with 4 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
NVIDIA Quadro K5000M, with 4 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory

    dunno if they will work in m 6600 , but i hope^^
    probably bios update will req.

    also 680m specs

Mine is shipping with the Quadro 4000M (I had the FX3800M in my M6500).

The 2760QM benchmarks as faster than the 2820QM and in some charts faster than the 2920XM. Stock clocks on the 920XM are 2.0ghz and 2.4ghz on the 2760QM. Turbo frequencies are also higher at 3.5ghz on the 2760QM vs 3.2 on the 920XM. The turbo frequencies mask a large difference in how much the 2760QM will stay in turbo mode and how much faster those modes are when more than one thread is running. The DMI is twice as fast. The Memory is 20% faster. All in all, the 2760QM will run much faster than the 920XM did and use less power doing it.

Even if you could overclock the 920XM, you probably could not get close to the 2760QM. The 920XM has a PassMark spec of 4463 while the 2760QM is 7571. The 2920XM is below the 2760QM at only 7475 because even with the higher base clock rates, the 2760QM can stay in higher turbo frequencies at higher rates for much longer.

The Quadro 4000M should be around 40% faster than your old 3800M. The Quadro 3000M and 3800M were roughly the same speed.

Your options are fairly simple. Enjoy a faster machine as is, or keep at it with Dell for more upgrades.

Thanks Bokeh, sounds like sticking with the 2760QM is the best option overall :)

Has anyone experienced flickering with the M6600 IPS screen? I know there is a thread discussing flickering with the LG screen vs. AUO but my IPS screen has just started flickering when I restart or shutdown. There also appears to be discoloration in the bottom left corner of the screen which is noticaeble on bootup against the black background.

I have tried reinstalling Windows and am still getting a flicker (only on restart or shutdown). I have only been using this laptop for about 1 or 2 weeks...

I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Anyone in this forum with this panel?

I don't have the IPS screen myself but a good test is to try to reproduce the problem in the BIOS. If the problem occurs in the BIOS it is almost certainly a hardware issue and doesn't have anything to do with the OS or drivers.
