Could be many things: ssd, mobo, GPU. I'd start by examining the event viewer logs. Make sure you are on the latest BIOS as well chipset and video drivers.

    I'll add to that list...
I've found that the memory should be suspect if you're having hard locks... but any problems should be detectable with something like MemTest86+.

I've also had a faulty wifi card cause hard locks.

Look for the red ones in the windows logs -> system, should right before the unexpected shutdown error.

Can't tell for sure but IMHO, the mobo should have the FPS connector. I guess you could give Dell a call and find out. Make sure you get to the Precision tech support.

Yes, the motherboard connectors are there for both the FP reader and also the contactless smart card reader. You are good to go.

    About to get my M6600 with 2860QM, 32GB Ram, 512SSD, 750GB HDD, Quadro4000.

Not sure about the display but wondering if it's possible to upgrade the regular screen to an IPS with 100% Adobe gamut by myself?
    Etsy Item number: 330730403547

Are the connectors and physical dimensions the same? Can't seem to find anythign related directly to this yet.

    TIA
