Just wish that the next bios upgrade for M6600 will come with application to Enable or Disable the battery charging like my previous E6500 :D

Bit difficult to remove the battery & just use adaptor due to the 1 of the base foot is on the batt...:(

Can anyone tell me what I need to install a second hard drive in my M6600

I bought it with only the standard Dell 750Gb SATA 7200RPM drive, needing more storage due to a huge project and external storage is not ideal as I need to be accessing it constantly.

I contacted Dell but was quoted around £180 for another 750 GB Sata drive. I would like to buy a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750GB which is just £90 and slot that in.

I have heard that if you purchased the M6600 without a 2nd hard drive you have to buy a bracket from Dell separately to install in the 2nd Hard drive bay?? Is this true??

Also, if it does have the bracket, are there screws for attaching it to the hard drive or do I need to buy screws separately?

Anyone else installed a third party hard drive into the empty 2nd hard drive bay?

Mine came with the hard drive bracket, but I needed to get 4 hard drive screws (the standard ones that screw into the sides of the HDD).

Installation is really easy, just unscrew two screws, slide open the panel and you will see the secondary HDD bay in the bottom middle. You will just need to unscrew three screws to get it out.

This is getting a bit frustrating. If I do the same things while on A/C the fan spins at it's minimum speed and keeps the CPU at around 44 degrees. If I unplug it the fan stops and the cpu temps rise to about 75. What can I do to control the fans. I want to be able to use it unplugged as with optimus I can get about 6 hours of use.

Thanks Zenoru, very helpful. Think I'll open up mine tonight to check the bracket is there then I'll order some screw and the WD hard drive.

    Cheers

When you fully load the CPU while on battery, do the fans kick in?

If so, I wouldn't worry about the idle temps - this thing is designed to be working hard, with temps constantly hitting 90C.

    Just enjoy the silence ;)

I checked mine and it has the bracket, I also saw that the WD Scorpio Black drive doesn't come with screws.

Can anyone tell me what exact size of screws I need to attach the hard drive to the bracket in the 2nd hard drive bay?
