*** IPS Panel color calibration with AMD8900***

Thought I'd share a few things from my experience of trying to calibrate the RGB IPS panel on the M6600 in Win7, as it's not easy and took me a few weeks to get it satisfactory...
(This is for those who got fed up with the irritating PremierColor app that comes installed and which produces a mediocre sRGB color space for windows UI and flickers every time it switches modes (which is almost constantly).

    1. I uninstalled Premiercolor.
    2. Installed latest Ati driver (catalyst) software for 8900 firepro card that I have.
    3. In windows color settings (advanced page) I set ICM color profile to Adobe 1998 (or you can set it to "Wide gamut").
    4. Set default color profile to Adobe 1998 also and intent to Perceptual. (Also chose to use WCS profile for ICC..though don't know what this affects).
    5. In Catalyst control panel -> My Builtin displays -> display color (builtin), I set saturation down to 86% for more life-like natural colors, (or you put it on %100 for nicer vivid colors).
    6. in same page I set color temperature control to tick the "use extended display info" (this is very important if you want colors to be like real-life. Otherwise leave it off for really bright vibrant colors.
    7. In same setting I chose between 6600K to 7000K for color temp, depending on if it's daytime or nighttime. (Untick EDID box first, select color temp then re-tick EDID box).
    8. In Catalyst -> desktop management -> desktop-color, I had to decrease RED values quite a bit because the Dell IPS display comes with a strong red overtone out of the box (especially in dull or electric lighting conditions)..so, here are the new RGB values I calibrated to my professional camera. (Didn't use any calibration devices such as Spyder)..

    Day cloudy:
    red: gamma: 0.95 / bright: -2
    green: 1.05 / +2
    blue: 1.0 / +0

    Night (electric light):
    red: 0.90 / -5
    green: 1.00 / +6
    blue: 1.05 / +0

    Day (sunshine):
    red: 1.0 / -5
    green: 1.05 / +2
    blue: 1.05 / +5

These settings are not ideal because I didn't have an electronic screen calibrator, but they seem to match most my high-quality photos pretty well. If anyone has a calibration profile from a proper device such as Spyder3 then please post here or PM me. Thanks all for this great forum!

Hey, all! I'd like to know whether the CPU socket has any special pin arrangement [such as HP does] or if it's standard fare. I'm asking since I'd like to install a Core i7-2670QM processor in my M6600 [which came with an i5-2520M originally]. Is it at all possible? Thank you all.

So I am new here and been reading this owner thread for a while. I decided to go with a 6600 and not a 6700 mearly because according to notebookcheck it was better at gaming. because the M8900 was better than the M6000. Was that a good idea. I dont use it for nothing else and I had to buy something with a dock.

I saw that too and this was one of my reasons for not spending the extra cash on a 6700. There is not much of a performance boost on the ivy bridge cpus. The Nvidias get a nice bump though.

been having an issue with the 6600 waking from sleep the past few days, was wondering if anyone knows what the problem may be or how to fix it.

upon waking from sleep either by lifting the lid or pressing the power buitton the laptop starts as normal but the screen remains black and if i press any keys nothing happens. i have to press the power button again to put it to sleep again and then again press the power button to wake from sleep again and now the windows log on screen appears.

anyone know how to fix this please?

    &&& edit &&&&

have just discovered that when i wake from sleep even though the screen is blank if i input my password on the blank screen it logs on.

ive tried one suggestion of disabling c states that i found a few pages back but that doesnt help.

    any ideas?

Hey guys just wanted to know what the part number for the quadro 5010 is so I can call up dell and get a quote on that. Figure if it's not TOO much it's cheaper to upgrade that than get a new system.

I would have this annoying problem from time to time and all that I learned from my research was that it may wake to run a program. I put my laptop to sleep and the darn thing came back on and was cooking inside my backpack, and the HDD light was red. I put it under the A/C and fortunately all was none the worse for wear. Stupid computer.
The beauty of these systems and precisely why I'm buying one.

Yea well it's not very beautiful anymore if the 5010 costs over 600 dollars. But I'll wait to see if anyone knows that part number. I wonder if the 6600 is compatible with the new k5000 gpu.

It is when compared to the k5000m which costs over $2,500. Under that scenario, I see a bargain.
