Has anyone here ever done the IPS upgrade on their M6600? I have the AUO 1600x900 lcd and it has a strange effect which looks like every other line on the display is a little darker than the other. Sort of like an interlacing effect. I do have Dell installing a replacement (same AUO model) here tomorrow which will hopefully solve the problem but I still am interested in if the IPS upgrade is possible.

I did a little researching on the different parts needed and placed a call to Dell Small Business Parts for a quote. They told me the following:

Supposedly the third part is the "interposer" board that the IPS display needs. The gal that I spoke to also stated that the 772MN part includes both ribbon cables necissary to hook up the LCD (along with the camera/mic cable as well). I can also get the LG display itself new from multiple vendors (haven't actually checked stock) for $150. Seems strange but all of the part numbers match up (they even have the Dell part number on those screens). I guess it must be cheaper because it is now discontinued.

So if someone could confirm that all these parts match up with a system that shipped with the IPS display, I will go on ahead and order them and try and do the upgrade. $500 doesn't seem like too bad a price to get a much nicer display than the one that mine came with. Actually I might be able to get it a bit less than that as the 772MN part seems to go for under $100 on ebay.

Anybody know the exact size or have a link for the teeny tiny screws that hold the case and components together?

Found that I had maybe 1-2 missing ;*(

the fans on my 6600 have all of a sudden started to make a loud noise whereas before they were subdued. and i have no idea what has brought this on. anyone have any ideas what the cause may be?

    edit
ok sorted it. took the back cover off and just above the fan on the right there was a metallic strip that had come loose and was over the fan so when the fan kicked in it was hitting the metallic strip.

A lot of the holes are marked with size of screw that should go in it. Like 'M2x3' or 'M2.5x5'.

I was able to finally unbox my scratch and dent m6600 this morning. There are 2 minor scratches on the sides of the lid - nothing that I probably would not have done in a few months of use. The only way to describe this system is elegant - very nice design. Everything seems to work great. Only dissapointment is the keyboard - some flex and it is not backlit.

    Note:
    1. Please note that if the A05 or after A05 BIOS and before A07 is currently installed on your system you must first update to A07 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.
    2. Please note that if the A02 or before A02 BIOS is currently installed on your system, you must first update to A03 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.
