The mass storage controller is the Intel Rapid Storage Technology and the unknown device is usually the free-fall sensor or the smart card reader. You can get the WiFi/WiMax driver direct from Intel along with the storage contoller. The swipe sensor is your fingerprint reader and that driver (and the sartcard reader) is typically in the Dell Control Vault package.

Try using Aida64. On the main page go to 'Devices' then 'Windows Devices' then scroll down to 'Unknown' and it should give you some idea.

A little OT, but could someone explain the posters' ranking system at this forum to me? I mean, Scott - with as many as 961 posts - has Rep Power of 7, while Cat1981England - with only 20 posts - has Rep Power of 13. Is the Rep Power counting up or down with the number of posts? Do the post "quality" matter?

Please also consider my own rating in your explanation, as this is not very clear to me - considering my number of posts in-between the above examples :)

I think rep is based on how much rep other users give you by using the little star button in the bottom left corner of your post. So yes, you could have users with a lot of posts and little rep and users with only a few posts and bigger rep.

Maybe, maybe not. I can't imagine people like Scott not earning more rep than new posters like yourself (no offense :))...

OK, so I'll now click your little star, and please click mine - we'll see if it influences our score.

Iif other users are too lazy to give you rep, for example for pertinent answers, i guess you just don't. Though I think there's also other factors taken into account. And no, no offense taken.

So will the HD 7970m or Gtx 680m be "installable"?

And if so - Would I be able to switch to the integrated GPU to conserve battery life afterwards?

My model currently features the FirePro M8900.

Do you know how/where I could download the driver from Dell to enable these extra options?

    Thanks so much!
