Where did you order your processor from and how much did it cost? Thanks!

Friend gave it to me as a present.

Also wanted to confirm that adding a palm rest with fingerprint reader works perfectly for those who want to retrofit one.

I was mainly interested in the processor, since they're hard to come by around here, so I thought you might provide me with some leads.

Has anyone installed the Windows 8 RTM on the M6600 yet? If so, have you had any problems? What's your experience been of it?

Quick question, does the ivy bridge CPU work on the m6600? Or is the best CPU we have available the 2960xm?

    @ tickedon -
No Win8 RTM yet, but it is on my list of things to do in the coming days. This weekend, I will be doing an M6600 NON-IPS display system to IPS system upgrade and photo documenting everything for the group.

...at least that is the plan.

    Thanks in advance.

No, the mobile Intel 6-Series chipset used in these Dell systems will not support I.B. even if in theory it could be made to do so. Unfortunately, it appears Intel, Dell, and other OEM's have decided the finical loss would be too large to properly support viable and current base hardware when they can force the customer base to “pay if they want to play” with the new processors…so here we are; so much hardware potential but "land locked" on upgradability.

Oh well, such is life... and yes, the 2960XM is the top end for this system.

Well I tried this last night... and it failed! Got stuck at 53% when upgrading, and tried a few times: either stopped with the error "Windows 8 installation has failed" (so helpful!) or just hung at 53% forever.

If anyone is successul, let me know!
