To get the fingerprint reader working without the dell access software you want this driver Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] (assuming your win 7 64 bit.

Uninstall all the dell access software (should probably reboot) then install the driver pack above. If I remember correctly there is a firmware update that you apply manually in the the Broadcom package linked above. Once the drivers are intalled open the Control Vault WBF software and enable the finger print reader. You can then enroll you fingerprints through the windows Biometric Devices > Manage your finger print data option.

This caused me to click 'cancel' before updating my Bios from A09 > A10. It looks like several of the version numbers are LOWER in the new Bios. Is this cause for concern?

How many wifi antenna wires does m6600 use, 3 or 2 ? I am thinking of replacing dell 1501 wifi card with the intel centrino 6300 for better performance. Any issues/suggestions ?

Not necessarily. A higher version does not always indicate newer and/or better software. It could just be a matter of where the developers branched the code. However it's your decision in the end. If you're machine is running well I wouldn't bother.

I installed the public release of windows 8 professional
    Technet subscriber :-D

So Far everything is working fine, cant get data access protection access to work so my fingerprint reader wont work but other then that its super fast and all the other devices seem to work properly.

I dont have the ati control panel anymore nor the premiercolor options but I am working on that right now.

Will update again once I get thoughs 2 things worked out.

I know some will disagree but I strongly believe there is a problem with the fingerprint reader on the M6600. I did update the drivers etc like was suggested recenly and it did get a lot, huge amount, better than it was but it is still far too inconsistent to use to log in.

Have you notice how much bigger the fingerprint reader on the M6700 is.

I wonder whether this is an issue with the much small one on the M6600.

Anyway, I won't go on about it. I gave up on the fp reader on my M6600 sometime ago.

Best of luck fixing yours. Will be interesting to hear how Windows 8 performs.

I just got a m6600 from ebay ( yeah I know fleabay~~) for a decent price( around half of outlet list) with probably no warranty( NBR do not need warranty RAWR)

I admit I did't read all 400 pages and NBR search is just too good so I guess I just ask my questions :)

    1. Docking stations, pr02x,pr03x which one is for m6600? I don't need legacy support, just more monitors. I read that the plus version will get 1 more screen? How about factor in I not going to use VGA?

2.msata/pcie, I going to buy a msata drive when it come on sale (yea wait more huh), wonder what I can do with the PCI-E port. Not gonna have WWAN, probably USB+mouse dongle is the way to go?

    3. CPU drop, any i7 qm will work I believe? ( from 2630 -2760)

    Edit: battery and charger

What is the expected battery life with m8900 and is there any smaller (cheap) charger for portability?
