Just bought a new x-bracket from ebay. Was quite expensive for the simple fact that it's just a piece of aluminium. I am buying it hust to know that everything is perfect. I reused the one that was on the 3000m but it does not sit perfectly as it presses down on some of the components. It needs to be of a different shape in order to sit perfectly flush on the back of the GPU. So to all who try to swap GPUs know that going from AMD to nvidia ore vice versa will require you to buy a new x-bracket.

If you have the non FIPS fingerprint reader there is a firmware update in the broadcom software/driver package. If I recall correctly you need to manually update the firmware as there was nothing during the driver & software install that prompted me to do so. The firmware update made a huge difference for me.

With the new drivers & firmware update and none of the dell access software the fingerprint reader is working great for me. I believe the issue is with the dell access software more than the the fingerprint reader hardware. I can honestly say that using the fingerprint for my windows login is actually faster than clicking & typing my password.

A tip if you are getting a quick response from the finger print reader but many invalid swipes is to slightly alter the placement of your finger when enrolling fingerprints. Roll your finger to the left on one swipe, roll it to the right on another swipe. I have had to deal with a large number of fingerprint readers of different types and having a good range of swipe samples when enrolling is key.

Thanks. Like I said, I did all the updates and it it also made a huge difference but was still very poor and I just reverted to typing passwords etc.

I have also tried logging different fingers, positions etc.

Like I said, I am sure some will question me, but I am sure there is an issue with the reader on the M6600. I do believe that is why the scanner on the M6700 is so much bigger.

One question for you though. You said "roll your finger to the right" ... "roll to the left" - I have always swiped north to south rather than east to west and vice versa. Is this scanner supposed to work east to west vv?

Anyway, am glad it is working for you. :)

I just thought I'd mention the firmware as it's easy to miss. The firmware version working for me is 1.2.7.14. I also swipe top to bottom. I meant that during enrollment, instead of placing your finger flat then swiping down, roll your finger 10 or 15 degrees to the left then swipe down, then flat & swipe down, then 10 or 15 degrees to the right & swipe down. This way you get a variety of samples when enrolling and in general the fingerprint reader will be less finicky as to the precise position of your finger when using it for authentication.

Interesting thanks. I think I will give it one last shot, and will uninstall it (Dell ControlVault), then try using the new Dell Data Protection - Access which came out 2 weeks ago. Version A06 2.2.00003.009 perhaps Dell fixed whatever was wonky with it.

Does anyone find the newest Quadro driver 305.93 less stable than the 296.88, especially with Optimus enabled? A couple off apps, including my NLEs, are slower and crash often with the newest driver.

    Or is it just me?

I have not installed them yet because isn't the new 305.93 driver only available for the desktop version so far?

I could not find the notebook version, only the desktop. Not sure if there is a difference but one would assume so simply by having the two different types.

The notebook version was available, but later pulled. May be an indication that you shouldn't install it yet. :p
