Why midnight? Did some new law pass or something? Are they going to start charging tax indefinitely now? That's pretty messed up and going to contribute to killing the online retailer over time.

And yes, Prime is nice, and Amazon was damn clever with how they got people hooked. "Oh come on, give it a try, one full year of free 2 day shipping, it wont hurt" and after that time's up "How about we give you another year for just half off? Deal?" "Yeah sure" "Mwahahaha! We gotcha now b$%^*" I start to go crazy if something takes longer than 2 days to get to me now. I'm addicted to two day shipping.

Yes, the 1 year tax holiday for Amazon runs out tonight at midnight. This was a deal Amazon made with our lovely Governor last year so they could build distribution points within California and generate 10,000 new jobs.

I like Prime for the instant movies and the free shipping. However, now that tax will be collected on all new orders, I may just shop around more before each purchase.

I order from amazon a lot and over the last month they just started charging Tax for Texas. Some of the stuff I order has tax and some doesn't. Not sure what thats about, maybe since its comming from a different warehouse. I don't think Amazon has a warehouse here, they have some kind of office or 3rd party company. I'd need to look into it further. It does suck though, I will be going back to newegg more often now.

I find that somewhat unfair as many of the online retailers are not in California and also the lack of sales tax generally makes up for the charge of shipping and handling, allowing online retailers to compete with franchised retail stores. And the charging of sales tax just directly screws over the consumer who is already taxed like crazy as is.

Hi Scott, I received the system yesterday, thought to report it here. I am absolutely loving it. It's a bit on the heavy side but that's not a major concern. The dent is more of a minor scratch and is not on the back of the screen cover, it's at the front just beside where the locking latch is located, so not a big deal. Currently the configuration is 2960xm, 8gb, dual 320gb hdd, DVD RW, Dell 501 ... I had separately ordered 16gb G.Skill RAM, 1 tb WD Scorpio Blue, Samsung SSD 256gb, LG BD RW, Intel Centrino 6300 WLAN card and a Cooler Master U3 Cooling pad. Now I have to install all this stuff and I have no idea where to start from. Could you please point me to an online guide or manual that could help me in quick installation in a step-wise manner?

Thanks for all the help and support.

It should be OK as long as the latest firmware is installed.
