How good or bad is a refurbished/used optical drive compared to a new one considering the lens wear and all? Would you still recommend it if return is not an option?

    Thanks Scott!
That would be Smart Card Reader = Control Vault Driver.
Mine is taken care of through Data Protection Drivers.
I'll need to add that into the reimage guide.

    Tenchi's one last error 5880.

And thanks TMastPrecision - your post had that too :D

These days, it is fine as long as the seller is legit. It would take a lot to damage a sealed optical drive lens. The mechanical track, motor, and/or laser intensity would be degraded first and that takes years of constant use.

It will either work or it won't in most cases and this applies to new units as well.

Tenchi's machine needed the Control Vault firmware update - I believe this will take care of that error 5880.

I'm a little curious about your Biometric Devices device node compared to mine which lists as ControlVault device.

Edit: You're running the Windows Biometric Framework - what I was thinking about doing a few weeks ago - and said meh - too much work to find out otherwise.

Oh, I can install another and switch back and forth?

I might as well ask while I'm at it, which middleware driver is it and how to change priority.

Edit: Well that was dumb of me, it's the control vault and so disable DDP - and all is well coexisting?

    Scott:
I thought I read this in the driver details ealier: Broadcom WBF cannot coexist with DDP or any other biometric software. So I heeded that warning then and now. I don't know what you did, does yours coexist functionally or just pictorially?

    From Driver page:
This is the Dell ControlVault Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) 64 bit Driver and USH Firmware supporting Integrated Built-in Fingerprint Reader devices in systems with Windows 7 Operating Systems. Note: The WBF solution is NOT compatible with Dell Data Protection | Access solution.
