We checked the update list, BIOS was updated to A10 which caused the SSD issue. Also Dell ControlVault A09 2.2.117.284 was updated and Dell Data Protection | Access A06 2.2.00003.0 was updated.

The fingerprint options are now gone from the startup screen so these updates were not that friendly. There is no Biometric Device entry in the Device Manager. BTW, this is not the FIPS compliant fingerprint reader and this computer is running the Dell Win 7 image. I'm guessing we will have to remove and re-install some of this software.

    Our Main Fingerprint Issue:

We have another Dell M6600 running our corporate Windows 7 64 image. This computer does have the FIPS fp reader. The corporate image uses an application called Courion Direct! CP x64 8.00.00.29 and we were told that the IT team could not install the Dell fingerprint software as it conflicted with this Courion software.

Is there any technique that you know of to get these applications to cooperate? Apparently they did work on this with a Dell Engineer but no luck.

    Thanks

It's not possible to run both. Install one or the other.

Uninstall from program/features Control Vault first and see if DDP logon returns. If not, next uninstall the DDP apps/middleware/drivers. It is a little more complicated to get the WBF - but from what you gave me you'd like at least DDP back to normal.

You can try harddrive DDP A06 package again (untested by me) or install the previous drivers that are known quantity in this order:

R308498 > Dell Data Protection Access Driver Package {A03} (For FP/SC Reader)
R308511 > Dell Data Protection Access Middleware Package {A03} (For FP/SC Reader)
R308585 > Dell Data Protection Access Application Package {A02} (For FP/SC Reader)

    Hope this helps some.

Edit Addendum: Control Point Security (not Control Point System Manager) is not compatible with DDP check to see if that was auto-installed as well - if yes, remove.

This all pertains to the first computer with the Dell image correct? Since the update installed both DDP and ControlVault. We tried uninstalling the CV with no effect, removed the CV driver in Device Manager, same. Removed DDP. Now we are downloading and installing the latest DDP.

Any ideas on the second computer with the Courion Direct! CP software conflict? When you mentioned Control Point Security in your addendum were you referring to this?

    Thanks

I'm not familiar with Courion Direct! CP.

No, it wouldn't be that. I think it was taken down (CPS) but I wanted to mention it before you got to far down that path. It is mentioned in the dell reimage guide

It really is impossible for two drivers to control the one hardware unless they are designed to do it that way or coexist. In this case it is probably futile to continue trying, especially if the engineers couldn't tweak it.

Courion Direct! CP doesn't give you features that are preferred?

    GTVic:

Went to Courion Direct. Found password management software. DDP works with the windows password authentication. Probably a source of frustration trying to get it to work and probably not possible without cooperation from Courion Direct.

EDIT: Have you considered or tried WBF in this setup as the two might work in this configuration; you'd want to consult with both companies Dell and Courion.

I believe the Courion Direct CP simply provides the password functionality that they require (min password length, at least one capital and one non-alpha, no repeats of previous passwords, etc.). It does not access the fingerprint hardware at all. I'm guessing both the Courion and the Dell FP software hook into the login process or password authentication and somehow they can't operate at the same time.

I would try the WBF myself as I have admin access on the machine, but I wouldn't know ahead of time if it would kill the Courion or how to verify that the Courion is still working afterwards.

Yes. You're referring to the ControlVault which the FPR connects with. That's why I think you might get further on the enterprise machine with the WBF. DDP would be more restrictive as a packaged solution.

There are some smart people around here so you're in the right place trying to find an answer.

As mentioned in my PM to you, there are various utilities and SDK's that will allow you to work with the different flavored middleware and control each instance of the backend. However, to clarify, I have not run anything at the same time so your mileage may vary...or it may go nowhere.
