the 3700 Vostro would serve me well (assuming the resolution is 1600x900) ....but I couldn't stay away from another Precision....hmmmm

According to the guy doing the unboxing, it's an anti glare screen and not a glossy one.

Yeah, I think Dell means it's not matt nor glossy but in between.
Matt screen = almost zero reflection, but colors don't pop up so nice
Glossy screen = lot of reflection, but gives much nicer colors
Anti-glare screen = some reflection without much reducing the nicer colors.

In combination with the touch multimedia buttons (and dedicated gpu) I think Dell want's to position this vostro as a combi business/home notebook (at work it's used for business and at home you watch your movies or play some games).

So in this perspective the semi-glossy (aka anti-glare) screen is a logical choice.

But I agree they should offer a matt screen option for those wanting only a bang for the buck strictly business laptop.

So what is the tax number field for exactly? What if i put the tax number down for a family business would i be exempt from the tax? Can i get away with the business name and my address/payment or does it strictly have to be by the company name, address and payment?
    Thx guys!

Will I be able to replace the built in HDD with my 2.5" SSD that I have lying around? How hard is upgrading HDD's on Dells in general?

    Thanks

Yes you should be able to do that perfectly.
In general it's quite easy (remove back cover, remove hdd, remove hdd cage, place hdd cage on new hdd, place new hdd, place back cover).

Don't need to be a IT expert to change the hdd.
Second, Dell usually provides straight forward instructions on their support pages. At the moment they aren't online yet, but it won't take much longer.

    Update:
My colleague's new DELL Vostro 3700 was delivered on 2010-03-24, a few days earlier than expected.

    First impression:
solid build quality, display is non-glare. Notebook looks and feel rather business-like. Although it cost roughly 1/3 of my own DELL Precision M6400, it looks not really cheap.
    Keyboard is back-lit.
    Overall: Very good first impression.

Best of all: There were many confusing informations around the display resolution: Online on the DELL website, no information was available. Some sources stated 1368*768. My DELL representative told me it would be 1440*900.
I am very happy to confirm that our Vostro 3700 has a resolution of 1600*900

    :)

That's good news on the display resolution. I actually spoke to a sales rep yesterday about that, and they confirmed and swore that the resolution was only 1366 x 768. I told her she would lose a sale if that was true :).

I'm wondering if ALL 3700's have that resolution? U.S. and international models? Does DELL change specs for various markets?

Great news to hear! Especially about the display. So it's really non-glare :) not glossy like on that youtube video.
How is the screen itself (viewing angles, colors, black levels,...)?
