Trying to configure a Vostro 3700, with W7 Professional 64-bit. I want 6GB of RAM, but Dell's configurator won't let me select more than 4GB of RAM. It says only 64-bit OS's can have more than 4GB of RAM! Am I missing something, or shouldn't this be a valid option??

Hey man, i have my 3400 on order still, being delivered for april 12, i just have one question.

How does it handle heat because i have the inspiron 1464 and am returning it in less than a week and the new vostro looks the same just different casing and my inspiron gets way too hot and the fan comes on every 20 seconds. How often does the vostros fan come on and how is the temperature on it because if its bad im going to cancel my order. thanks!

Must be a problem with the configurator then. It wont let you choose 6GB AND W7 32 bit but it should be no problem if you choose the 64 bit edition.

Try calling the sales departement and ask them to change it.
Most of the time they don't have those stupid mistakes in their configurators.

That's what I figured I need to do. If I can only get them to admit it's got a higher resolution than 1366 x 768!

I think that Vostro 3700 is the best deal going out there right now. The resolution makes sense as that what I read on an OZ site for that unit. The 1368.768 res would be insane from a marketing viewpoint. :D

I have a Vostro 1220 I'm using right now, and the Vostro build quality really is good.

The screen of the 3700 is not glossy. Compared to my other recent or long-gone notebooks:
Compared to my old HP 9420, it's about on par.
Compared to my girlfriend's Studio 15, the colours are far less vibrant, but there are no reflections.
Compared to my own M6400, the colours are somewhat less vibrant and the viewing angle is far worse.

    Alltogether:
    Resolution: +
    Reflections: +
    Colour: =
    Viewing Angle: --

In total, the display is okay, but not outstanding.
The viewing angle is the "Achilles heel" (? hope my English is correct?). This should not be a problem if you are the only person working right in front of the notebook. But I would not recommend this notebook for presentations, watching DVDs together, showcase applications ...
It's okay for a developer's notebook, which it was meant for :)

First hand. Vostro 3700 is sitting on the desk next to me. It's my colleague's new notebook (replacement for ailing HP 9420).

Update: Viewing angle for 3700 is not totally bad per se. Text, Icons... are perfectly readable when turning the display in other directions, but some colors, especially soft colours to "disappear" wenn turning the display.

Example: I created an excel sheet. Most columns are white (FFFFFF). One column has a light yellowish background (FFFFCC). When I sit right in front of the display, the color IS yellow. When I turn the display up or down in an angle of only 5 degrees, the yellow becomes almost white to my eyes.

But maybe it's about my eyes, maybe spending too many hours and nights in front of all those screens... :)
