Is the V130 expected to get the Sandy Bridge upgrade?

Maybe anyone can tell me: v130 has unremovable battery, so is there any way to stop charging battery when on AC power ( to prevent, fast battery degradation ) ? My previous sony tz had power saving feature that (when requested) prevented from charging over 70% to save battery. Or i could just remove battery.

I don't believe Dell has any sort of feature like that. As for the battery, you can't really expect Dell to get much more juice out of that battery. It's about 3mm thick and weighs about 8 ounces. I'm amazed Dell managed to squeeze 30 WHr outta that thing.

Um, don't new Li-on batteries have an auto cut-off feature?

This is what I have been telling all to my friends. They dont have to removed the laptop battery when its on A/C. Li-On batteries are smart. They all stop charging when its full. Thats why in my Precision M6500, the foot is on the battery. Why? Because its not supposed to be removed. Even my cheap LG P500 phone have this. The only danger for Li-On batteries are over discharging it. This will shorten the batteries life. And without the battery is like running a PC without a UPS.

Yes they stop charging when full, however getting it to stop charging at say 70% or 80% or whatever percentage is something that goes model by model as the manufacturer needs to add that to the BIOS/hardware/software.

yes they do but my point is, that when you work a lot with you laptop connected to power adapter it is not good for the battery to be charged 100% all that time. Battery wears faster while using that way. If its not true why Sony put battery care function in their laptops ? YouTube - Vaio Battery Won't Charge Past 50% or 80%. a lot of home users dont know or dont have this function thats why they remove their batteries.

My Latitude E6400 has a keyboard shortcut (Fn + F2) to stop charging the battery when AC power is connected. The setting switches off when the laptop is shutdown or if the power is disconnected/reconnected. I presume all Laitude/Vostro laptops also have this feature. Some HP business class notebooks I use at work have a similar keystroke.

I'm surprised not to find more discussions re this model. Admittedly, there seems a lot of negative sentiment re the short battey life. However, I don't personally see this as a deal-breaker in my purchasing decision.

So, I'm interested for feedback from those users who've bit the bullet and purchased one - how's the heat of the unit? I'm using an M1330 w/ dedicated graphics, so keen to upgrade to something that can sit on my lap w/o burning me (although I've read the V130 can get hot, too). And, falcon26, how did you go installing the SSD? Looks a bit fiddly from the service manual, but something I'd like to do in time, too~ Finally, echoing doug_the_donut's comments, is a SB version in the works? If so, then I'd say it might potentially salvage some support...
