New Latitude and Precision's

Call to order.
1- Not only you can negotiate a price, but
2- You can get the specs that you want exactly.

 

did you do phone order or online chat?? what kind of price did you get?? I tried a couple days ago, and the female rep that I got offered me a $150 disc only. I tried chatting with a different male rep, and he said they couldn't offer me discounts at all. I might have to wait a bit for a coupon or promo to come out before i pull the gun on this one.

I found the custom configuration link that lets you totally customize from all the available options... "E6510 Build Your Own"... it's under the "Large Enterprise" Laptops link.

I guess they don't think "Small & Medium Businesses" need such flexibility, which is where I was looking before.

 

If I'm not mistaken, that enterprise link also configures at a slightly lower price (going off of memory here) when I compared my original configuration a few days ago with the same one configured there today.

 

I think the price is pretty much the same.

 

I didn't have an issue getting the specs I wanted (E6410, i5-520M, 2 Gbyte RAM, 128 Gbyte SSD, NVidia 3100M, WXGA+, 6200 WiFi). The small bus. low and medium options were able to give me what I wanted and at the same price but the high small bus option took away some of the lower end options that I wanted. The corp option allowed me to configure what I wanted but the price was higher than with small bus. options.

What was really, really helpful, though, was calling to order. I never would have thought of it if I hadn't read it here. Thank you GoodBytes!! I configured a Lenovo T410 similarly and other than the separate graphics, was able to come pretty close to the specs for the 6410 above. And even though the list price came in about the same, the Lenovo was cheaper because of the discount they offer. I pointed that out to Dell and after going through the Lenovo details bit by bit and pointing out things like the Latitude having a better chassis, better default battery, etc., they gave me a couple hundred dollar discount! So not as cheap as the Lenovo but much closer. As GoodBytes wrote, definitely worth it to call and have done your homework with a comparison first.

 

FYI, there is quite a bit of room to negotiate on these things... I configured an E6510 system on the Large Business site for $2600, passed it over to my Dell Small Business sales rep, and he gave me a price a little over $1800. That's about a 30% discount!
