I wonder how you can use that 8GB of RAM.

I see that the waiting time is about a month.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

Run (all at the same time) AutoCAD, Acrobat Pro, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Dreamweaver, SQL Server 2008, ColdFusion JRun, a virtual machine or two, and Firefox using 1GB with it's memory leaks, easy :D

I just need to run one or two VMs now and then and Visual Studio 2010 bits and bobs, am really interested in how the E6410 performs, also the battery life as well.... if it does the above and plays HD movies without issue then I think i'm sold - I was going to shell out for a Vaio Z series, but I think this'll do the job for a fair amount less money....Any thoughts?

Only one thought: call Dell instead of ordering through their site, make sure you negotiate a better price. They are authorized to give discounts over the phone.

Thanks for that HerrKaputt, thats my plan, although im going to wait and see what the guinea pigs think of it first, and unless it's got any glaring shockers i'll probably get one, that core i7 should rip through most day to day stuff I would hope though...

My E6400 (P8600 CPU) already does that :)

Except, of course, when I throw serious number crunching at it using MATLAB. But my lab already offered me the chance to get a powerful desktop that I can remote control, so far I've declined.

Sounds great - all I do is development stuff (.NET, SQL e.t.c) (some on VM) and some music & movies - just want something as light as possible with good battery life / build quality - i'll give the guy I bought my last Dell off a ring, remind him how he fleeced me last time and see if I can get a decent discount ;) That vaio Z series looks really nice, but im not paying over 2k for a laptop any more...

Am I the only one who thinks its absurd that the base configuration of the e6410 includes vista home basic? I have a legit 7-ult key in front of me to install, but that's pretty damn absurd for a business laptop.
