It is also nuts that we are forced to buy Windows in the first place. How about an option with no operating system for those of us who don't use Windows?

Call them to order, I'm pretty sure you can negotiate that.

only on the e6400; there is no such option on the E6410; you can downgrade to vista home basic and save 50€

true i have a student copy of win 7 professional 64bit for 10€ and i'm forced to buy a 30€ vista home basic key as it's the cheapest os option (40€ cheaper than win 7 PRO); i guess that i might change my order to 7 professional 64bit and sell the key for 70€ on ebay :(

what i find odd is that the led backlit keyboard is available on phone orders only and that you can't get a 5400rpm 640gb HDD (would be a nice option as i use a SSD and a 7200rpm drive in the multibay is a waste of battery runtime so i stuck with the 160gb drive

    here is my config:

so i'm redoing my order right now and i'm wondering if there is any difference between the Core i5 520m and i7 620 m in battery life?

the up to 500mhz boost of the i7 seems to be worth the premium but i'm unsure if they consume much more power in idle than the i5 series....

there is a test on notebookcheck.com showing no difference between the i5 520m with integrated fgraphics (T410s) and the i7620m with NVS 3100 (not switchable. t410) showing almost no difference in idle so i guess that being a higher bin (better core) the i7620m might be slightly more efficient than the i5 in idle clocks which can result in a higher pattery lifetime in energy saver mode

so no difference at all in idle power; i think that i'll stick to the i5 520m and save the 130€ upgrade :)
