When I called in, they were asking for something to verify tax-exempt status.

That must be a feature of your country. What happens if you say that you are not tax-exempt?

I just get directed to the EPP Sales. I may just suck it up and buy the thing at the price I was quoted. I really need a new laptop.

I think the reps are automatically assigned to certain accounts so giving out my guy's name wouldn't do anything for you if he's not assigned to your account. For a while, I was getting a new rep randomly assigned to me every few months, LOL. Anyhow, small business reps can't discount "consumer" stuff (or at least that's what I've been told). I've asked before and he says the posted prices with coupons, etc. are already as low as they can get and he can't do anything on better pricing for Studios and Inspirons.

    from where are you franz?

there is a reseller selling business notebooks to consumers in germany; they might have better prices than dell themselves (at least my order over their student portal was 150€ cheaper than the cheapest offer i got from a dell rep for the same system)

Well, if they can at least get to the Home side pricing, the Small Business pricing for identical items blows...especially the Complete Care.

My understanding is they are locked into their respective "sides". DPA on the Home & Home Business portal and Dell Business Credit on the Sm & Med Business side. Why Dell plays this antiquated firewalled hierarchy is beyond me. I mean I can see having some division in the sales rep area as obviously larger companies with more seats and varrying IT situations get/need better pricing and services, but the fact that the online portals vary so much make no real sense. So if you have a small home business which do you use? :D And yes, I do understand the differences in how the credit accounts (personal, corporate) work, but as far as what/where you are ordering from it should be moot.

    I'm in the U.S.

The Dell reps here are probably kept on a tight leash when it comes to the discounts. I did get a pleasant call from my large company's Dell rep who confirmed the 20-30% discounts for the corporate buyers do not translate to employee discount programs.

I am probably going to wait for the full HD screens to come back for the Lenovo T510 before I choose. Does anyone have a preference between the Latitudes and the T-series?

The T-Series systems are pretty nice machines, I just chose Latitude because I preferred the way they looked over the completely matte black ThinkPad's.

It sucks that you can't seem to order by phone. (is that what your trying to do?) I had no problems ordering my machine by using my name for the "business name"...maybe they tightened up on that trick, which would really be a shame.
