Someone please get answers about the USB 3.0/Camera upgrades and if existing M6500 owners can upgrade (and if so, free or how much $)

Yeah I have to say this pisses me off now. I bought an M6400, because the rep had no idea when the 6500 was out.

5 days later the 6500 launches.

I order the 6500, still waiting to get it and now they make two major revisions the the device in less than a month from launch?

Granted the camera is not a huge deal but if the USB3 is going to be chipset based and not an add on that is a big deal.

I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but just wanted to reiterate it since it could make a significant difference to those of you that are color calibrating your displays.

Windows 7 will "dump" your display calibration (loaded by your calibration loader at startup) if the system goes to sleep, or if you log off and then back on again. This is due to a bug in the way Win 7 handles user profiles. To fix this, you need to go into Windows color controls and assign your monitor profile as the default system profile for your monitor. This will ensure the correct profile loads when the system returns from sleep or you log back into the system.

First, MannyA, with all due respect, "chill". I am as passionate as you when things don't work, but i do think for the most part everyone that is posting here is trying to help.

With that said, I respectfully do not believe keithsnell's post is a resolution. I will not disable Control Point. I want that running for various reasons. I expect Dell to step up and fix this problem immediately. Obviously there is a BUG in Dell's Control Point color management system.

    Enjoy the day folks.

    Hi AdamHLG,

Ok I will chill; lol :) lol

I just don’t like it when someone says there is a fix to the Problem, when there is not. That just drives me up a wall.

    Thank You, I need that.

    Control Point

What functions of control point are you using and others not needed? I see there are four modules:

    Power
    Systems and Devices
    Connection Manager
    Security Manager

Also, looks like under programs there are three items installed

    Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager 64
    Dell ControlPoint Security Manager
    Dell ControlPoint System Manager

Due to issues with the WiFi, I disabled all connection manager items and also disabled Dell Wireless WLAN Tray Service with MSConfig so it is not controlling that. I would uninstall it, but I think it controls the hardware switch. Anyone try uninstalling this module?

I have no option to change the screen colors. Maybe because I am using external monitors right now. I will check later with it undocked to see if these show up.

I have not used Security Manager yet, but need to for the finger print reader.

For power, I have it set to High Performance under Windows. Does the control point power manager give any advantages?

    thanks,

    Mike

Nope, except dell could replace our motherboard for free.

After thinking about it the fact that USB 2.0 was out since 2004, makes having USB 3.0 onboard a pretty big deal on a device this expensive.

I am canceling my order despite already waiting almost 2 months.
Anyone in their first 30 days should do the same since there is no penalty and dell pays to ship it back.

Just found out that the M6500 seems to be a whole lot more expensive in the US, than e.g. in Germany (usually it's the other way round). My configuration currently costs in Dell's US store $3776 without VAT, here it was €1823 without VAT.

That's nearly $900 more in the US at the moment (with the difference of the US machine having a fingerprint reader, mine not)...

I think usb 3.0 is much better than usb 2.0. However i dont think NEC chipset can meet the standard of usb 3.0 and also Intel will annouce their motherboard with USB 3.0 in the next year. Just look at the usb 3.0 products, they are so expensive and just work for few computer now.
