I dont know about you but, this machine is a good 3 year investment, you can bet that higher end peripherals such as HD cameras and other high speed devices like solid state externals will all be USB3 within 2 years.

Missing out right now is not an issue but later in the life cycle it will be a disappointing missing feature much like having USB 1 was annoying when 2.0 was mainstream.

    Hello everybody,

Thanks Jun for the link. I will try it when I will receive a new system.

I feel that people are getting very heated. The news about the USB 3.0 and the screen problems have created a heated discussion.

And it is normal. Dell is playing with our intelligence.

It is an important (marketing) mistake to announce this when they are not able to deliver in time and without problem the "fastest laptop in the world" (misleading advertising after all my benchmarks).

We did not buy a Fiat or a Renault (I am French-Italian :)) but a Maserati (the USB3 version will be a Ferrari) or a Porsche. And for the moment, I have the service of a Tata car!

would the expresscard slot and an adapter card allow for use and performance benefit of USB3, if a company were to make one?

How about an M6500 docking station that may in the future have USB3 ports?

would either of those work? I know it's not ideal but it wouldn't leave us stranded without USB3 if that really takes off. I'm not sure if an express card could support a high speed USB3 though. Anyone know?

    Thanks,

    Ben

I sent the DELL rep an email, and told her my order had been delayed, which is ok with me, but when they ship it, make sure it's USB 3.0 like the competition. Too much money for anything less, etc....I'll post her reply here.

How can you call bullsh1t when you don't own the machine and can't actually contribute any first hand observations? Hell, you haven't even ordered an M6500 yet.

Then you go and tell Keith that he is probably some Dell flunky, while you have a link to the IBM Thinkpad W700 model tour in your sig. If anything, you are the one most likely to be in the employ of Lenovo with the job of stirring the pot on the M6500 thread.

I have checked out most of the suggestions that you posted. Some were applicable to the issues that we are working through on the display and some are not. If something had worked I would have posted a reply.

I have twice spent an hour on the phone with the people from Dell that built this machine. I have spent hours working through calibration schemes. I even loaded Vista and XP on the machine to see if it would make a difference. I put a lot of time into helping people. I also am very quick to own up to my errors and correct them. For you to call me a liar just because I didn't respond to someone else's post with gloom and doom is 100% disrespectful. Your better than that and you know it.

At this point I think we have a workable way to profile the display. It may not be ideal, but it is a workable solution. I use a colorspyder and Keith used a colormonkey. His profile was better than mine. Dell is working with Datacolor to see why the Spyder reads the M6500 displays that they tested it with differently. To me, this means that I own a colorimeter that may not be able to calibrate this screen as well as the one Keith has. If Dell is working with Datacolor on the issue, I expect a fix to come out at some point. The fix will probably come from Datacolor.

In the meantime, here is my "so-called" solution. You should sell your W700 asap. You should then make up your own mind about whether you buy a Dell, an HP, or a Lenovo. Once you have the machine, make sure to heed all of your own warnings about never using any strange drivers so that you don't blow up your machine, and then you should work out a solution for color management. You should then post that information on the forum of your choice.

You don't get respect for accusing people lying or being shills from Dell. You get it from having an idea of what your talking about.
