Is the optical drive a SATA connection? I'm just wondering if it would be possible to put another HDD or SDD using an optibay/caddy in place of the optical drive. And what is the height of the optical drive... 9.5 or 12.5? Would the bios even recognize it as a 3rd HDD?

I was just thinking it would be cool to have a third internal HDD (1tb 2.5) for backups :)

I don't really have the intention of doing this, but it would be nice.

For those luck souls amongst us that have an M6500...

    1) Does yours have two optical disk "devices" in explorer? Mine has the DVD RW drive (D: ) but also shows a BD-ROM drive (F: ) that doesn't really exist - I only have one optical drive? This is weird. Maybe this is something great that I should like but now it just appears to be using a drive letter that I'd rather assign to a USB backup disk.

    2) How common is it to have a "Battery charging is disabled" feature these days? My 9300 didn't have one and I burnt out the original battery in a year or so (almost always powered on AC). I love that feature in the Dell Control Point software!!

    ygohome,

Dell is updating its Precision M6500 laptop System.
Read post#1627 dell is adding a 64 GB SSD mini card for your Operating System (OS), and
you can setup your system in a RAID 5

    I hope this helps

Thanks Manny, yeah I was aware of the 64gb SSD. I was thinking more about a much larger drive though... a 2.5" specifically.

It is cool about the 64GB mini card though. That will be a nice upgrade perhaps later on for me as an OS/APP drive

Be careful : If you have 50% of 144Mbps on your intel card and 75% of 130Mbps on your dell card, dell card will be the best one. You can't know that without testing, speed connection given by windows is just an indication. If I'm not enough clear, read this topic.

Also, if you want to have a better wifi card, you can test one with ralink chipset or atheros chipset.

    Hi ygohome,

Ok, This may help. Replace a Dell Laptop's Optical Drive with a Hard Drive.

This should work for the Optical Drive it is for the M6500 & M6400.

I am Waiting for the 64GB mini card for the OS & page files, and the USB 3.0 ports.

    I hope this helps :)
