Maybe old news but I was just checking out the options on the M6500 and now the non covet machine on Small and Medium business has the option under screen options

17in Widescreen WUXGA (1920X1200) USB3, Truelife RGB with EdgetoEdge Blood Orange LCD Panel (Bluetoo [add £546.00 or £20/month-1]

What an odd place to place USB3

I take it everyone is aware of this option

Have to assume that the euro page is different from the US page, since there's nothing saying "blood orange" regarding the display in the display options, which sounds "covet'ish". No USB options around the screen area, either.

The "value package" is the only one in small/med business that has USB tagged options under the machine general option listing.

Dell Precision M6500 Mobile Workstation for Quad Core Processors w/ USB 3 [add $352]

.. as well as the i5 series of options.

On french site they all get labeled with USB3 only on final basket :

    Mobile Precision M6500
Base : Silver Base, Clarksfield, USB3

By the way, my calibration with WLED was a nightmare... I send back my M6500 to Dell (actually it does calibrate but that WLED gamut is so skiny under sRGB it's just useless)

What is what you call a good deal?

I got a 10% discount and 18 month with zero bank rate. I wish I could get like 15%.:(

I've been looking at these as well. Based on what I have read, I would probably go with the Delkin you linked to. From what I have read, this is the best compromise between a card that doesn't stick out (it shouldn't with the M6500 slot) and has enough "depth" so that cards seat properly.

I'm a bit miffed that Win7 doesn't support my 32-bit PC card slot reader, but understand that technology marches on.

If you get the Delkin before I do, please post your findings. I'll do the same.

    Hi mannyA,

Thanks, I was just bemoaning/b1tching about the fact that after a month or so they've added all these options that I would have selected had I been given the chance. But I've already got a M6500 so I should just shut up.

I've contacted my rep to see about USB3/MiniCard upgrades, although for the latter I will probably just go to NewEgg.

Thank you very much for posting the Gamut plot for the WLED monitor. This is very valuable information for anyone considering the WLED for image editing. My assessment is that while the WLED may allow you to avoid some of the "wide gamut" issues discussed previously in this thread, not having coverage of the complete sRGB gamut will lead to its own set of issues.

For what it is worth, I became very frustrated with the display on my previous laptop not being able to display the complete sRGB gamut. This led to some very frustrating moments when I was unable to match screen to print, or match colors across monitors, especially in blues/purples (for that monitor).

I don't mean to second guess anyone's choice of display for their work, just wanted to point out to future purchasers that the WLED screen may have its own set of issues to contend with.

I posted the 3d plot of the RGB LED gamut back in this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5828648#post5828648

To summarize, the display gamut exceeds adobe RGB in all areas except a very small portion of the most saturated blues and a very, very small portion of the most saturated greens. I greatly exceeds sRGB in all areas. Overall I am very happy with the display for image editing in the field.

(Although you still need to be careful since viewing angle can change the gamma/contrast of your image. I use a gamma calibration target to set my viewing angle before each session so that I can achieve consistent results with other monitors and prints.)

    Hope this helps,

    Keith
