Do any of you guys have the USB3 version of the M6500 covet?
I seem to have an issue getting USB3 to work....

I installed the NEC USB host controller drivers (found on the Dell Support site). for some reason these did not come pre-installed.

I have an external USB3 hard disk but when I connect, it does not seem to work.

A utility comes with the install and when I run it, it says USB3 host controller not found???

Please help if anybody knows the solution ot this..

    Thanks

    Photographer based build question:

I'd like to ask fellow photographers what they have choosen for video: m7740 or FX series card?
My primary focus will be initial Photoshop editing in the field, along with some video editing. Any long, or detailed rendering would go to the desktop i7.
I think the m7740 would be suffice for Adobe work, but would like to hear from other photographers.

havoctex stated USB 3 needs to be enabled in the BIOS, it's disabled by default. Please let us know when you get it working; I'm really interested in its performance. :D

I tried to install both sets of drivers via device manager, but it seemed as if the drivers were not compatible. Please let us know what advice if any havoctex may have. Thanks.

    Tony,

I chose the 2800m as it is close in spec to the 3800 and same drivers. It also* supports Mercury for gpu rendering in CS5* see update to this statement below. CS5 is why I went with the Nvidia product and have Quadro FX on my workstation and laptops. While I own AMD stock and would have loved to buy the ATI, it was Mercury that kept me speccing Nvidia. I saved some cash with the 820 CPU/2800 so was able to do a ssd boot drive. In all I am pleased with my spec for CS5 and at a great price point. For photography even my Quadro FX 540 on a 4 year old dual opteron Boxx works fine. For CS5 things have changed and a good supported GPU is necessary to take advantage but I don't believe the 3800 is mandatory. I will spec the 3800 desktop version within the year though on a new Boxx. For a laptop I went for a balance of cost/efficency/productivity.

**some recent posts pointed out that the mobile products won't support GPU render such as the 3800 and above desktop counterparts do. While I considerd it a bonus if they supported Mercury in mobile products.....Nvidia still has won my favor with the 2800 due to stability in use of other Nvidia products to date. Drivers have been good and consistent for all Quadro cards. I had no reason to choose an alternate card without application benchmarks in any regard at this current time.

just enabled USB 3.0 in the bios, however still no luck, The NEC utility still states that a USB3 controller weas not found, and on the device manager, it says that the NEC device is not working properly...
