I have the same issue. As soon as I enable UDB 3.0 in the bios the NEC driver cannot start (code 10), and the ports do not work (although they do receive power).

Cannot seem to get an answer from Dell or any of the current USB 3.0 owners of the laptop.....

I'm curious about the RAID setup.

Can RAID be done later on?

I noticed the dell configure page had the option to set up the computer with specific RAID configurations so I just want to make sure I don't need dell to set up an array.

As for RAID 0, do the disk drives have to be the same size and if so, when setting up RAID 0, say with 2 500GB HDs would I have 1TB of storage or still only 500GB? Thanks.

Just got my m6500 a bit ago. First impression is that the RGBLED screen is gorgeous and it's FAST.

    More later. Hooray !! :)

For RAID 0, you would have 1 TB of storage (2x500GB). Performance would be great, yet if you have either drive fail, you lose ALL data. Before setting up RAID 0, I would recommend having a backup workflow and process.

I don't have the M6500 yet, but in general, you (user) can setup an array. One of the first things that happens, is a format of the drives in the the array (any data on them will be permanently gone) to create the RAID.

What type of performance do you need from the disk drives, to be considering RAID 0?

I'm not sure honestly, all my work has been bottle necked by ram or CPU, and it seems like now it will be the HD. I will be doing 3D CAD modeling and chemical plant simulations and on my off time I'll be playing with Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS4 and Native Instrument's Komplete.

Every so often I will need to copy HUGE amounts of data to and from my PC and perhaps the RAID 0 would be helpful with that, but again I'm not sure.

As for backing up, I always do, especially with mission critical files, generally I'll save a copy to my flash drive and a copy to my hard drive then do a back up to my external when I'm back at the desk so disk failure would just be a pain and not serious.

Asking to Dell more info about the issue what I got isn't very comforting (and already known). :(

So basically there isn't currently a working driver for W7 64bit OS and the only way to get those two port working is not to use the 3.0 features on the bios.
This way the controller will use generic driver. Of course this won't enable the USB 3.0 support and it works like any other USB 2.0

They don't also know when a working release of the driver will be available.

This still sounds odd to me.

Has anyone got the USB 3.0 working on a 32bit OS or with a different configuration?

well....I had the HP envy 15 with the NEC USB 3 IO card running w7x64 so that seems pretty stupid...When I have a chance I'll upload my HP USB 3 drivers and you guys can try it out.

    Hi Altoid,

what Dell said sound pretty strange to me too (no sense at all to be honest).

Also I just had a look to the notes for the only driver they have for that card is stated that IS also for W7 64bit too along other OS.

so why this card cannot start....
I'm just being afraid that what we're experiencing here could be a hardware failure then.

Thanks for sharing the HP driver, that would be very useful to try them out.
