    Hi Bokeh...

    thanks for this suggestion.

Well, I'll give a try....the problem is that this ATI has the nasty habit to auto-reinstall its drivers once you have uninstall them. It's really difficult to get rid off of them completely.

I'm losing my hopes now, maybe tomorrow I'll try with a new fresh installation for the system. (that's pity for Maya, I can work on my old desktop in the mean while. At least I know which driver I have to use now for the M7740 :)

Are you running a standard Dell OS load? Or did you already re-install the OS on your own?

I already re-install the OS as when the machine came the ATI card drivers were completely messed up (no CCC and very unstable behaviors with MAYA, even after installing the driver that now works, it was unusable).

Maybe I did something wrong when I install the system. but everything works fine now a part of this USB 3.0.

    Hi giakomon,

When you downloaded the NEC USB 3.0 Driver, you did save it to your desktop right?

And you double-clicked, the NEC_USB-3-0_A00_R255278.exe from your desktop right?

Then you are prompted extract or unzip to: C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R255278 and you did write
    This down.

Press the Windows Key + R then Type: C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R255278\Setup.exe
and then press the enter key.

Then Follow the on-screen installation instructions

    Did you do this?

    Hi,

    yes I did this already.
Honestly I've never had all these troubles with DELL machines (I've got a lof of them in my past).

This also the second M6500 I got. The first one had serious problems with the screen (WLED) and video card (it was an FX2800M then) that I had to return it. Now the USB 3.0 trouble. £2000+ pounds of problems

Frankly speaking I don't really need the USB 3.0 features now... so I can live without it but you know spending all this money and having something that isn't perfect is definitely not really nice... :( hopefully I can work out a solution.

    giakomon,

did you do a clean install, before you turned USB 3.0 on?
and are you in AHCI or RAID mode?

Did you try going to device manager, and update the driver manually given the
    Path: C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R255278

I'm stumped, I have no Idea then

Ditto. I have a very efficient and semi tweaked load of W7 64 bit, but nothing special. I had downloaded the NEC drivers when they first hit the downloads
section of the Dell site which was at least a month before it came out. I installed the card, enabled it in the bios, and it just worked. Nothing special.

I am looking for anomalies in his W7 install. Is it a legit install? Is it updating properly? Is he running some kind of hacked software? Is it the ati drivers or the way they were installed? Is he making an ID10T error (we all make those simple mistakes). Not trying to put them down - I am really not - I just don't know them that well and I have to rule out the easy stuff. My guess is that they know their stuff, but either the card if defective, is improperly installed, or some config setting is wrong in the OS. Without the Dell stock OS build, its tougher to rule out hardware, but we should still be able to.

I just hope he ends up happy with his machine and does good work with it. I will keep trying to help.

Hi guys, thanks for much for your help.

I'll try to explain better my situation, so maybe we can this way found out what wrong with this laptop.

To re-install the system I used the DELL cd that came with the machine. So the copy I've got is legit.
Same for the drivers.... I also got a restore CD with all drivers for this machine and I used them to make some "not recognized" devices working. Few drivers have been downloaded from the DELL website. Everything has been done as clear as it should be.

As for the ATI card: with the latest driver (8.681, A01) MAYA runs very bad. crashes all the time when I'm working on some complex scene (150mb +) and its very slow in Open GL. So I'm using the previous version (8.633.2RC3, A00) that fortunately works better - even if still not perfect. The system has been update trough windows update normally and smoothly. Everything was really good since I discovered this USB 3.0 issue. That's all.

The only thing is that I tried to install the USB 3.0 AFTER updating W7, maybe some of the update are preventing the NEC driver to install? The variable are countless so the only way to verify this is to install the system then the NEC driver then update. (I just can't how long it will take...need to work with this machine so I can't play with issue a lot)

As fore the software. I'm running on this MAYA 2009 and Adobe creative suite CS4. I own both.... Of course I've got some satellites things like quicktime and small utility but all of this work perfectly on the other computers I've got.

My computer is connect to a external monitor using an adapter display-port to DVI that work very fine. I don't think this can be the cause of the trouble.

ID10T error. I installed the os (of any kind) and hardware parts on computer for the best year of my life. When that dell support guy inspected my M6500 remotely trying to solve the issue I felt from the first sec that we were losing time. He was repeating exactly was I did....no matter that I already told him so. And and the end he came out with "there is not support for W7 x64" and I foolishly believed him.

I also think that to replace that card they might need to di-assemble almost everything in this computer and after the experience with the previous DELL technician, that left my M6500 with more trouble than I already had when he replaced the screen, I'm very afraid to have another experience like that.

I had then no IDEA then!!!! Does a new fresh installation worth the time I'll spend to perform it?

I'm pretty happy with this computer overall I don't even think that I'll ever use this USB 3.0 but what make me feel bad is that this machine is sold a workstation and I'm having more problems with this than with a generic PC bought in a superstore. Unbelievable.

sorry anyway about my english guy, this is not my native idiom.
I'll keep you posted if something new happens... :) thinking positive!!!

sorry also for the long post.

    p.s.
I use no RAID on this computer.
