Thanks. I did see your post a couple of pages back and that is exactly the approach I went with. I was really hoping more could chime in about the 2nd HDD caddy being there. I don't want to buy it if I don't need it, but I would be pretty upset if I get this beauty and can't use it until the caddy comes in.

I noticed you are not from the US, anyone from the US received the 2nd HDD caddy?

I settled on a 6k white point to get good delta and more accurate tones. I did note that my Xrite/GM software figures the screens white point native is 4900 so pretty yellow/red.

With DCP set to sRGB and stock WCS settings in place the blooming red is gone and web viewing is more normal. If one chooses an sRGB setting with the screen in NTSC mode I would assume mapping of tones would be off. Then again I'm learning as I go here as well with this new screen. Next things is to make a custom profile for each DCP setting. aRGB is much cooler and since my Eizo used to be promoted as close to all of aRGB maybe I'll get a cooler, better screen image with a calibrated aRGB mode instead of NTSC or sRGB. Worth testing every mode and picking what works best. If I can get a good calibration in each mode then I'll just switch as I go.

Re USB 3 upgrade path for early adopters of the Precision M6500. I have just had chat with Dell Precision Tech support and while on the phone asked about any new info regarding this upgrade path that havoctex mentioned Dell were working on a couple of months back. The tech support guy didnt know what I was talking about and said he had heard no such information. He said he could not comment as he had no information to comment on, and when I told the support chap that a Dell representative had mentioned this, he just said that this was not what he had heard and it may therefore just apply to the US.

So if I can ask havoctex, does this USB 3 upgrade path which you are working on apply only to the US or will this be available to all M6500 users at some point? I am located in UK so things might be different for us here, but I hope that this will become available at some point in the not too distant future.

I am not in a massive hurry for this USB 3 upgrade and realise that this sort of upgrade policy can take some time to work out, but as I read that recent M6500 owners are already receiving their workstations with USB 3 card included, I am merely trying to establish whether this will upgrade path will be available to all early users at some point, no matter where they are based.

Any info on this would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply mitchellboy. Referring to the link you posted, gripper mentions in the 9th post down on that thread that the correct part number for the USB 3 is RMNKT, and part 0831K is for the older USB 2 board.

I looked on dell site but cannot find any reference to RMNKT, and just to double check I searched for 0831K and it showed me Parts and upgrades for your PowerEdge 6350 which is no good for me.

I'll have to call Dell support again, i.e. India, and see what they say.

    Thanks anyway

As I said, it can be calibrated out, mostly anyway - still not 100% happy, although it's balanced out to an extent by the advantage of the screen. But the big question: Why? It's terrible 'out of the box' and just does not look right at all. It was less of a practical issue with the M6400's, but since I'm doing a lot more than just visualisation with the machines I'm now necessarily more critical.

I agree though I am trying not to be too critical for once. As Rosanna Anna Danna used to say, "It's always something". That said I am still back and forth between profiles at 6500 and 6000.

I also find it odd that nobody else is talking about the secondary HDD bracket. I asked my rep at first and he said it wasn't included (in fact, he said USB 3.0 wasn't included as well) so I guess I was happy to be surprised on the upside. He said that I had to order it from tech support as soon as I got my service tag, which was what I initially planned to do if the secondary HDD bracket wasn't included. I guess you can run on the default HDD that comes with your purchase first? Forgot to mention that my M6500 can still boot from the second HDD (which was the HDD that came with my purchase) as it is just a matter of setting which HDD to boot from in the BIOS. I am planning to delete it when I need more space but so far so good.

The 2nd HDD caddy is included 100% with all systems. If you didn't get it just call Dell support and they will send one out to you at no cost.

Holy crap! I`m experiencing the yellow tint on screen when sun shines on my M6500, as was reported earlier. Did anyone find the solution to it yet as all automatic environment controls have been turned off. It`s not a big deal to me but it would be nice to have the solution for. I also have another minor gripe. My question mark, higher than, less than, open bracket and close bracket keys would not work out of the blue and I have to restart my computer to get them working again. Has anybody else experienced this. <-See, no question mark but my '<' has suddenly move to my back slash key. Arghh!!!
