I dunno about you but when I'm spending the US$ equivalent of >$10K for every two of these I buy, I think I'll allow myself to be a bit critical.

I made a call to UK dell technical support and part sales department and they told me the 0831k was the left io board with usb 3.0. Because Gripper mentioned RMNKT was in Canada, so I have no idea they were same item but the price was there. I think its too expensive and with 1 year warranty and you need to instal it by yourself.

Thanks mitchellboy. That clears things up a bit, and I'll phone Dell Tech Support in UK to find out more. It is confusing sometimes and Dell seems to operate differently in different countries.

But you are right, the USB 3 card does seem a little expensive so I dont think its something I'll do straight away. But thanks again for your help.

    Cheers for now.

You deserve to be critical. I have found a good working solution once I got a neutral white. The screens white point is 4900 so seems to be the issue.

I was poking around my laptop last night (had to replace bad kingston hyperx ram) and I noticed where the 2nd HD would go (I only have 1) the mounting bracket is already there and it also came with the adapter and screws to mount the HD, also I have the dell wireless 1520 card (2x3 they call it) and I suppose 2x3 means it comes with 3 anntennae but only 2 are used so I am trying to get an intel 6300 N card from babyhemi on the forum and take advantage of that last antenna.

Bad HyperX, eh? Was considering their XMP stuff even though it's 2GB module kits. I've got a quote I'm about to pull the trigger on I think with a machine speced at 2GB ram since the kits at newegg come in well under what even the discounted Dell price reaches for the 2X4GB kits.

I know RAM debates can be wildly variable at times, but considering the g.skill kits can be had for under $400 for the 1333Mhz 2X4GB kits, is there any reason to pay an extra $100 per kit for something like Corsair/Crucial?

Asked our rep today about the possibility of getting this instead of the Intel 5300 even though it's not available in the small business Covet config pages. We'll see, I guess.

There is no debate, get the cheapest kit of the same memory type (ie. DDR3 SO-DIMM) from any company with lifetime warranty. Speed and latency are mostly marketing terms and are inconsequential to real life performance. The reason why it doesn't matter what company you buy from is because most companies you buy from use the same memory source (Micron, Hynix, Samsung, etc.)

I found 8GB is more than enough for me at this point in time so I did the hyperx 2x2gb kits and the one kit I bought from newegg had a dent in the heat spreader so I think maybe one of the memory chips on the silicon was crushed, kingston had no problem doing an RMA so no bad feelings here. It was significantly cheaper than anything dell offered as well.

Well I didn't bother since for $37 and about 5 minutes it can easily be replaced. Everything is so easy to replace so far. From memory, the WWAN, WLAN, RAM (DIMMS C and D) and HDs are easily replaced from underneath.

Understood. Trying to get a lot of headroom for client/server dev, so the cheaper I can attain a 16GB playground the better.

Gotcha. Figured I'd try to get it done out of the box, though the theoretical 40% performance increase claim will have to be seen to be believed (from the 5300 to the 6300).

Good to know it's easy to dig around in. Not a stranger to self upgrades (since my Inspiron 7500, even.)

Mitchelboy - I am in the US, not Canada. The ProSupport rep I talked to was also in the US. As I mentioned in my post, the tech found me a "refurbished" 0831k "Left I/O Board" for the M6500 for $75 dollars USD. I specifically gave him your part number.

But I was suspicious why this supposedly "new" part was already in his refurbished stock at discount. He did some digging and uncovered the RMNKT "Left I/O Board USB 3.0" for the M6500 that was not for sale (yet) and therefore had no price.

Perhaps 0831k is the part number for the RMNKT in the UK?

I want to know when is this USB 3.0 upgrade going to be available to us M6500 owners?
