how fast is the SSD Minicard?

i assume that it's the same as in the M4500 (judging by the pricing) and the idea of a 64gbssd + 640gb hdd is very tempting (compared to single 64 or 80gb ssd)

With the end of the quarter this week, I am gonna jump in on the M6500. What kinds of recent quotes are people getting on similar configs to compare?

    Mobile Precision M6500, Carbide Silver
    Intel Core i7-820QM Quad Core 1.73GHz 8MB for M6500
16.0GB, DDR3-1333 SDRAM, 4 DIMM for Mobile Precision
Internal Backlit English Keyboard, Dell Mobile Precision
    nVidia Quadro FX 3800M, 1.0GB DDR3 Discrete for M6500
    500GB Hard Drive 9.5MM 7200RPMfor Mobile Precision MX400
Genuine Windows 7 Professional64-bit, w/ media, Mobile Precision, English
64GB secondary Mobility Solid State Hard Drive, 2.5MM, M6500
17" UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) RGB LED Display for M6500

Is the 128 GB SSD the way to go? posts here say it is much faster than the 64GB. So I may upgrade it.

is $4,100 a good deal on this one (with 64 GB SSD) or should I fight harder w/ the end of the quarter upon us. Anyone with similar config. willing to post what they paid?

    Thanks!

My M6500 is coming today and I paid $4480! The major differences in our configurations are:

    1) 920XM processor
    2) 2x256gb SSDs
    3) FX-2800
    4) 4x1g memory (I purchased my 4x4 a while back when I thought I was getting a different machine).
    5) 3 year on-site warranty + accidental coverage.

    Hope this helps!

    Best Regards,

    Shane

I'm running Windows XP on my M6500 and I also have a popping noise coming from the left speaker just prior to the audio DAC playing a sound. The audio pop only occurs when no audio has been played for a little while (eg: the popping sound seems to occur when the audio DAC/CODEC is resumed from a low-power/suspend state).

I've tried everything and nothing fixes this problem (In Windows XP anyway). Dell is suppose to be replacing the motherboard but I doubt that is going to solve the problem if others also have this same problem. I'm not running Windows 7 so I can't use the default Windows 7 audio driver. I also don't want to install Windows 7 just to see if that fixes the problem.

Strangely, Dell doesn't seem to know anything about this problem because they have not been able to resolve it. When I unload the IDT audio drivers, Windows finds IDT drivers and the problem comes right back in XP.

Is anyone else out there using Windows XP with their M6500? If so, did you also have the audio popping problem? Did you resolve it?

This is something that Dell knows about. I hope they have a fix for it.

Most every article written about TRIM support recommends using the default win7 driver, so I would not switch it.

I have spent the last several days with Dell tech support and they think that I need a new M6500 motherboard. In fact, they were suppose to replace my motherboard last Friday but the parts haven't arrived for the Tech. They were suppose to come today but they canceled because the parts still haven't arrived.

I have a feeling the new motherboard is going to behave the same. I kept trying to explain that it's probably a driver issue (eg: not muting the output when pulling the audio chip out of suspend/low-power mode). However, I do hear the "popping" when running the audio diagnostics so maybe this is hardware related.

Anyone with the 3.2MP webcam here? I'm curious if there is a huge difference with the 2.0MP webcam.
