or, return it to dell within 2 weeks time and swap it out for the dual core for $150 more. I'm fine with the solo edition though, its sufficient for office stuff, and I have my Envy 15 Beats for heavy duty stuff. funny thing though, I can actualy play Oblivion on my V13 at a better framerate than I can play Morrowind. Maybe Morrowind is more CPU intensive and Oblivion concentrates on the GPU? really don't know why.

wow, really? I've asked once online service agent if I could change my celeron to a dual core. He said the only thing I could do is to get refund for my current laptop and order a dual core model:confused: .

I'll re-ask it later. obviously, a mainboard is worth more than $150.

So, how silent is the V13? Are we talking so silent, that you can't hear the fan even in a silent room? I don't care about the HDD, I will replace with SSD anyway.

I don't have access to a truly silent room, but in a typical quiet room like at libraries, the fan sound is not noticeable. If you hold it up to your ear, you can hear it, but parked on a desk, it is practically silent. We'll see how fan noise fares over time, but at least when brand new, the fan is very, very quiet.

Probably old news but there are some more recent driver updates for the V13 (Jan 19). A Dell backup utility is now available and the synaptics driver update includes two-finger scrolling!

Just wanted you guys to know that I recieved my Dell Vostro V13 today and I absolutely love it. The main focus of this laptop for me was online video streaming and local playback. I'm happy to report that it plays Hulu (Desktop and Website), Youtube and almost any standard or high definition video I can throw at it pretty much flawlessly. Compared to all the Netbooks I have tested recently this thing is a breath of fresh air. The exterior design is well thought out and I am highly impressed with the build quality. I really think Dell has a winner with this product. The configuration that I selected was the Core 2 Duo Processor ULV SU7300 with a 320 GB drive, Win 7 and 2GB of RAM. Out the door it came to $708 and some change. CPU utilization has been in the 20-30% range with most of the videos in case anyone is wondering. As a result, it looks like the video card is doing a good job of handling the the decoding. I also have to agree with others that the fan makes very little noise even in a quiet room. Anyone with limited tollerance for fan noise will be pretty happy. The only sound related issue that I have with this laptop is the hard drive vibration is more than any laptop that I have ever used. It's not a clicking noise or anything like that. The drive just has a slight wisper noise with a vibration when it spins but I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that its a 7200 RPM drive in a case that's as thin as the drive itself. Personally, the vibrations don't really bother me and I'm actually happy that they put a fast drive in this machine. I hate dealing with slow 5400 RPM laptop drives and wouldn't want it any other way until 300+ GB SSD drives price drop down to the $50 range. Luckily the drive is not spinning at high RPM's very often so I hardly even notice it.

it does but Dell's website does not have the drivers required for 64 bit Win 7.
