I should note, I am someone who likes to buy the best. I like the look of the Macbook Air but its RAM is too low and I run mainly Windows so that's out despite the great looks. I like the Adamo too but that's double the price.

I bought this for travel and reminded myself that, although I wanted the best, all I need is something that can surf the net, check e-mail and do light Powerpoint editing like open a presentation with 200 slides and rearrange them without grinnding to a halt.

This laptop is more than able to do all that and is light for travel so fits the bill perfectly. I bough the one with Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive.

    Hi jeanlouis,

do you have sources of that overclocking utility? Or may be you know how does it work? Can you provide any contact info of original developer?

Indeed, it seems to me that this is the only one overclock utility for RTM875-606 PLL. )-:

    Thanks!

Guess it comes down to if the bios will allow it, will have to wait for someone to try it.

I've been looking for a new laptop to replace my D430 it was getting slow and old looking and I really liked the look of the V13. I bought it and right after it came in the Z600's made it to the dell outlet. I went ahead and bought one and it came in this week. Well I know that they are a bit different in that the Z600 is so much larger but I figured that becasue it is so thin and light that it would be a big upgrade. I just sent a retrun request to dell on the Z. Why? OK, I am used to the D430, but didnt love the really small screen, but I did not realize how much the build quality is important to me. The V13 is solid, rock solid, no flex anywhere, the screen doesnt move and the thing feels like a brick, a 3.5 lb. brick anyway. The Z was very sexy looking, it's screen is the best I have seen (short of an Apple) and the rubberized texture was very nice, but there was a lot of flex on the screen side, because of all that size and the parts felt a bit cheap. The hinges look great in pictures but in reality, they are plastic (I think) but with a chrome finish overtop. Also the way the battery is designed, it rocks a bit when you pick it up by the back side, and it feels like you have to be gentle with it. I will miss that big screen and the backlit keyboard but that is about it.
For now I am sticking with the V13, I wish it had a back lit keyboard and a good dock but overall this think is a great sturdy laptop that I can throw in by bag and go.

I would recomend the V13 for a great small laptop for anyone.

Hello all. I am currently debating between purchasing a new high end laptop - something like the nw Sony Z - and purchasing a desktop and a travel notebook. I like the idea of a single computer but when you realize you can buy a decent desktop and a laptop for several hundred dollars LESS than the Z, well, things get complicated :).

So I am here because if I do go the desktop + laptop route this V13 seems as though it may be ideal for me. I do have some questions though - forgive me if they've been answered, this is a long thread!

    1. What are thoughts on 2gb vs 4 for RAM. I haven't had a PC for a while so I'm not sure how RAM usage is on win7. Normally id always get 4 but with only one slot, that's an expensive upgrade.

    2. Is there any reason to prefer 32 bit win7? Perhaps it runs better with the 2g of ram? I'm tempted to take the default OS and throw on my own copy of win7 64.

    3. Tell me about the Celeron. Is it a single core 32 bit part? I'm thinking I will go for the C2D but maybe the difference is not as major as I think?

    4. Battery life - what could I expect with pretty low brightness and simple tasks (web surf, etc)? Id like to get 4+ really.

    Thanks in advance! :)

If you are going to switch to x64 its best to go for 4GB ram. Dont forget the oem dell key will work with x86 and x64.

Unfortunately, I don't have neither source code nor developer's contact. I found occasionally that tool on a Chinese notebook forum. The developer didn't leave any mail address there.

    Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a V13. The main purpose would be demos with Visual Studio/SQL Server while on the road.
Is the CPU fast enough to run these kind of applications smoothly?

Do you mean I wouldn't need to buy Win7 x64, would just need to get media? I had read that all versions of Win7 come with both the x86 and x64 but I wasn't sure that applied to OEM copies. On a related note - is it possible to do a clean install with the version DELL gives you?

As for the RAM... it's just such an expensive upgrade for this machine. I am thinking I'll stick with 2GB and 32bit OS for now, and have the option to upgrade to 4GB and x64 down the road - maybe watch RAM prices and buy when it's cheap :).
