As a followup, I decided to keep the V13 because if I send it back it'll cost me about $30. The scratches are livable IMO, but more importantly I absolutely love this laptop. The screen is amazing, sharp and very bright. The screen finish is between TrueLife and Matte which makes for great contrast and vibrant colors without background glare.

While not a powerhouse it runs W7 adequately with only 2GB of memory. :)

    Hey guys,
I have decided to buy the Vostro V13 like lot of you here but I'm having hard time deciding when to buy it. I'm just replacing my Asus G1 with Vostro to carry around in school. Should I wait until the end of August when lots of laptops are on sale? Atm the base model is $449. It was $499 with Win7 until yesterday.

I bought an Adamo Desire (4GB/256GB SSD) for $1400 after tax. While I miss the better build quality (IMO) and backlit keyboard, I believe my Latitude 13 (4GB/64GB SSD) for $900 was a better deal due to the $500 difference and similar speeds (from my type of usage). However, if I was able to get an Adamo Desire for $1000, I would probably do with the Adamo Desire.

that is really strange, looks like my latitude 13 running su7300 under windows 7 32bit can't using that software. looks like it is using different clock generator. the tool above using RTM875T, how ever when I run that using SetFSB, it give me PLL ID Error. The cpu power save are different. the bus speed doesn't go to 100 MHz and *8. from CPU-Z it told me it is running at 200 MHz FSB and *4 to make it 800 MHz... really different system.

I just opened my v13 box today after getting home finally! Wow, I am impressed so much. There's nothing I can really say negatively about it besides maybe the non-backlit keyboard and that the screen isn't as bright as my E6400... The speaker's (or speaker I think) obviously isn't all that great, but it can get freaking loud surprisingly! And for a refurb, all I can find that's bad is a very very small dent in the cover, you can't even see it unless in the proper light. Very impressed!

If I could get a Desire for $1000 I wouldn't hesitate. Unfortunately it's the Admire that's going for $1000. SU7300 and non-trim 128GB SDD. I'm waiting to see what the outlet coupon coming out next week is before making a decision.

Rodknee has a great point about the $450 Celeron V13 clearly being the best bang for the buck, but I'm looking to do J2EE development away from my desktop so the dual core is pretty much a necessity.

After all this ultra-light and good looking talk I'll probably end up getting the studio 14z just 'cause I can get it with 1440x900 resolution. And by the time I do that I may as well get the i5 Sony CW which weighs twice as much as the V13 :D
