hmm now that would be a reason to buy an SSD

has anybody experienced these heat/vibration problems?

    did you receive it?

I'll try later on posting more impressions but i'm already leaning on sending it back. I think the 5400 rpm drive is the way to go or installing an SSD. While WEI Benchmarks would suggest there's a nice difference between the Celeron based V13 and the C2D V13, I think real world performance between the two are marginal at best. These laptops were never designed with Crysis 2 in mind so choosing a Celeron, Single Core or SU7300 makes very little difference. I've compared both my V13 and both have a snappy feel during operation.

The heat IMO is not good if you plan on putting this thing on your lap. The heat on the upper right portion of the laptop where the HDD sits is in the 50c range i.e. 121F, vibration is another issue. The space bar on my keyboard has a slight flair upwards at each end.

I think i'm going to stick with my Celeron V13 as heat and vibration on the SU7300 laptop with the 7200rpm drive are two negatives I can't deal with.

I too was disturbed by the noise and vibration of the 7200 rpm HD. Is was louder than the fan itself for the machine. Plus, given its location, you can feel it in your palms as well. I swapped it out for a 64GB SSD and the machine is definitely snappier and nearly silent. I'm using the 320GB HD in something else, so it's less of a wasted cost for me, but otherwise, my laptop cost me $80 more (for the SSD). But it was well worth it for the speed, silence and removal of fear of jostling it too much.

I've never had a heat issue with my Latitude 13?

80GB SSD in my L13 is pretty nice.

Is there anything about SSD's that I should be aware of before placing an order for one? Is there a specific size? I notice 3.5" and 2.5" and 1.8", are they all compatible with the laptop?

Just got off the phone with Dell. I explained why I want to return it and they understood. This would not have been an issue for me if they allowed to configure the laptop with a 5400 rpm drive. I have one in my other V13 and heat is not an issue, it just gets slightly warm. :)

I purchased one about 4 or 5 weeks ago from the outlet and I returned it because of the hard drive vibration. It almost moved across the table it was so bad. It had the 320 gb 7200 RPM, I believe the manufacture was Seagate.

I ordered a second one (from the outlet), it has a 500 GB drive 7200 RPM and there's hardly any vibration with this one. This one has a Samsung hard drive in it.

About your RAM, the 32 bit OS will only reconize 3GB. The unit I returned had 4GB, but the system only reconized 3. This one I have now has 2, and it runs just fine.
